How do ya inhale .3 of a spider? I mean come on! :D

I've heard this kind of stat loads of times before although I heard 10. It's likely to be rubbish anyway since it would be so hard to get proper data. Any links to articles where someone's actually studied this? I would think they'd struggle to get a research grant for this kind of thing.

Ahh that doesn't mean anything... I mean you could go your whole life without eating any, and then the day before you die you eat like a million, so it's not as gruesome as it sounds, you aint eating them every day. You also have to consider all the crazy cultures in the world that probably eat spider sandwiches, that would bring up the average too.

On a side note, spiders are delicious, yum.

I think there are on average 4.3 insect legs in a bar of chocolate.

Fried spider is a delicacy in Cambodia. We should count ourselves lucky: we get all of the spider and none of the hydrogenated fat...for free!

I heard that the thing about swallowing insects in your sleep is one of the most commonly quoted pieces of misinformation on the net.

The global spider population must be on the down-turn. I heard seven some years ago.

No where near as impressive now. :(

Yeah I'm always hearing that nugget - we apparently swallow spiders in our sleep. I'm inclined to believe it's a load of bullsh1t.

How come? Fair enough, the numbers may differ person to person - statistics aside. But, wouldnt you agree at least one little fella slipped into your mouth? ;)

per sleep or in our lifetime?

And how the fook are we supposed to be able to record that statistic at all if we are asleep?

I like to assume ALL of us arent being watched. The only reason I dont mind the red blinking light in the corner is because im a bit of an exhibitionist.

Well it's sure as hell about spiders now!!!

I heard that there's a spider that bites you causing paralysis, then it crawls up onto your face and starts to eat your eyes!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,738 ✭✭✭Naos

Good man Karl, was about to post it that!

Ah Spider sandwiches... I remember one fine day when I was a young un at a cattle mart with my Grandad. After watching the auctions for the cows we retired to a cafe where we got some bread, cake and tea.

I noticed a spider on his slice of bread and kind of gasped and pointed it out. He looked at me dead in the eye and said "Spiders are very nutritious" then proceeded to fold the bread over and to my horror, eat it.

Oh how I miss that man.

I've not learnt anything yet today and I very much doubt if I will. In fact, if anything I may regress.

I learned nothing today because I like to research these so called 'facts' which more often than not turn out to be twaddle. But please, do go on warning me about exploding spider cacti and whatnot.

That's just because there's one guy in Letrim who inhales thousands of them every day, massively raising the global average.

That woodchucks can, in fact, chuck 3 pieces of wood despite popular belief.

A few years ago I discovered that "first cousin once removed" did not mean they were dead. Always thought it was cruel when they were twice removed. Thought once would have been enough. Also that Chicago does not actually have an 'r' in it whatsoever.
