He didn't cum or anything, but all I need to know, to put my head at ease.. Is there a chance I can still get pregnant? This is killing me, anyone who knows the answer, comment and let me know. Is there a big chance, or is it a once in a blue moon kinda thing?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,978 ✭✭✭445279.ie

There's a chance, big or otherwise.

    Morning after pill

It's unlikely, but it can happen.

Most women ovulate roughly in the middle of their cycle. For example, if you started your period on March 1st, you'd be fertile around the 14th or 15th.

To be on the safe side, take the morning after pill.

When was the party? If less than 72 hours ago go and get the morning after pill immediately. The closer to the event you take it the more effective it is.

It was on saturday, but it was technically sunday when It all happened.. so If i get it tomorrow I should be ok right?
    How do I get it?

Go to the doctor and she'll give you the pills herself or a prescription for the pills.

Is the morning after pill not like a one time thing, or what?...

    wow Im so un-informed.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,382 ✭✭✭✭AARRRGH

    Do some Google searching :)

From what I remember, you take one or two pills when you get your subscription, and another one or two pills 12 hours later.

As far as I know it's just a very large dose of the pill.

from what i remember they give you two pills when you get the MAP, one to be taken soon as you get them, one 12 hours later.

your GP will tell you all, but in the meantime google it on irish sites to fin info, or alternatively this web page might tell you a good bit about it:

Should I not just take a pregnancy test first?
I might not be able to make it to a doc. by tomorrow..

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 150 ✭✭aoife000

no a pregancy wouldn't show for a while. if you can't make it to the doctors by tomorrow you are taken a big chance, so try to make the effort.

where are you based, it doesn't need to be ur own gp, you could go to a well woman clinic or any medical centre that's open..

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,382 ✭✭✭✭AARRRGH

    ?

If you are worried, find a way to go to the doctor tomorrow.

    Forget about the pregnancy test.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 161 ✭✭yeah?

I might be able t get into town or something tomorrow.. Hopefully.

what the hell do I do If I can't?!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,382 ✭✭✭✭AARRRGH

Ring in sick/do whatever it takes.

You have no excuse to not go to the doctor.

I might not be able to make it to a doc. by tomorrow..

OP the way a pregnancy test works is by measuring the level of HCG (human chorionic gonadotrophin) in your urine. HCG is a hormone produced by the placenta in early pregnancy and is only found in the blood or urine of pregnant women.

HCG will not be present in the urine until 13-16 days after ovulation (around the time you would normally get your next period. If you do an earlier home pregnancy test the result may be negative - even if you are pregnant.

anyhow the point of the MAP is that they prevent the pregnancy happening the high dose hormones act by delaying or inhibiting ovulation and/or by altering the transport of sperm along the tubes. so doing a pregnancy test would be no use yet anway because you wouldn't actually be pregnant yet, it would still be in the process of happening and the point of the MAP it to alter the transport of the sperm along the tubes. it wouldn't yet have happened, therefore you wouldn't be pregnant this soon anyway, therefore doing a pregnancy test today would be no use at all.

You should definatley go to a doctor and get the morning after pill. You can get the opening hours of the Well Woman Clinics at www.wellwomancentre.ie. They have two clinics in town and one also in Coolock.

    Best of luck!

Thanks a million, I might not be able t get t dublin though.. I'll try a local one in Drogheda or Navan..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,000 ✭✭✭spinandscribble

if you're a student you can ring your college gp and get a perscription faxed to a late pharmarcy and pick it up tonight. the sooner the better.
get yourself on the pill soon btw.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 161 ✭✭yeah?

There's no reason for me t go on the pill cause something like this is never gonna happen again, I won't let it.

tbh i'm sure you thought that before as well but as you know things like this cant be predicted. its just safer to go on it incase. also to reassure theres debate whether precum is actually potent enough to impreggy you but then again its just debate.

The morning after pill these days is just one pill you take. It does not have the side-effects that the old dose of two pills used to cause. If in Drogheda or Navan make an appointment FIRST THING in the morning, by that I mean start phoning at 8am to see which surgery can give you the earliest appointment. It would be beneficial for yourself if you know exactly what day of your cycle you were when the incident happened. The chances of you being pregnant are slim OP but by the same token if you don't want to get pregnant then it's important that you do everything at this stage to prevent it. Better to be safe than sorry and regardless of you saying this won't happen again you should also use the opportunity to discuss contraceptive options available to you. Good luck, you will be fine:)

I do know which day of my cycle an all, does that make a big difference?

I hope you are trolling. Are you seriously asking whether the day in your cycle reflects how fertile you are? If so then you really really shouldn't be having sex at all. I hope you got to your GP this morning.

First up get a bit of self respect dont put out on the first night, you get no respect whats so ever.
u will just be used as a booty call.

Also not wearing a Johnny can spread diseases.

    Grow up.

Oh & yea you could be pregnant but its highly unlikely

Eh if I were you, I'd be more worried about STDs than pregnancy (although I'd worry about that as well - penetration without a condom OR the pill?!). Sorry to be harsh but if I were you I'd get on the pill and then read up on the consequences of having sex before doing anything else. It's really unsafe to be so clueless.

If I need the PC police, I'll let you know.
Until then, read the forum charter with regards to useless comments.

    OP
Get yourself an STI test and start carrying condoms.
