Anyhoo, mammy and daddy found out that therres some part in the game where a prostitute gets raped and axed to death and they don't want that kind of thing in the house so I have to get rid of it, anyone know of anywhere with good deals to trade it in?

    17. Its not my age they're worried about, it's the content. They really don't want it in the house

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,225 ✭✭✭Ciaran500

Haven't finished it yet but a scene like that really wouldn't fit into the games story. Niko is too much of a good guy underneath it all.

Is there any chance of talking them out of it?

Explain to your parents that all the controversy is simply media nonsense from people who have not played the game. Let them watch the game for a few minutes while you do some of the nicer activities, such as bringing your girlfriend to a nice Italian restuarant. Just don't try your luck when you drop her home. Ahem.

But really, GTA is only as ****ed up as you make it. Playing through it straight involves little muderising of prostitutes. Seems the 'journalists' and other media folk who decide to have an agenda against the game simply play it with the goal of trying to stir some **** up, and create some out of context gameplay clips to shock the public.

Shame that such a wonderfully realised game has such a bad rep. Yeah, the dodgy content is there, but it is 18s for a reason.

Yep, completed it... haven't seen any axe murdered hoe's at all.
In fact I've gone through the game having not picked up even a single prostitute... they're not central to the game at all, I don't know why anyone even pays attention to them.
People who haven't actually played the game, obviously.

I tried the Gerry Ryan line, saying he's full of crap and actually doesn'y know what he's talking about because I'm sure that's where she heard it from because he's the the reason I couldn't get San Andreas, but they were more concerned with this "content" which doesn't actually exist.

Jesus man, throw out the box and say you sold it, mope around in a sulk like someone just took away your favourite toy and keep playing, say it's Grand Turismo they're not going to know the difference. I remember my mum tried to punish me for something by stopping me using my Amiga 500 (long time ago). She couldn't hide the whole thing so she picked what looked like an important part, the wire that connected to the TV and hid it. I sulked in my room for two weeks, playing away with the sound off and the wire from old set of head phones connecting CPU to TV. Don't think she ever copped it.:p

Yeah, I dunno if that will work, they're annoyingly up to date on today's technology. It's worth a try though. I'd have to hide the box anyway cos my younger brothers aren't allowed play

    Surely you can trick them...

yeah, its all media nonsense, half the stuff they say isn't possible in the game and the other half can easily be avoided alltogether unless you go out of your way to do it. I guarantee if all the people in the game were aliens or monsters instead that the game wouldnt have nearly a bad rep as it gets now, if any.

Also i bet they wouldnt prohibit you from watching a gangster film like goodfellas or casino which involve a lot of killing etc

I don't want to be mean or a bstrd but I wasn't asking about the morals of the game or wether they were right or wrong to stop me playing it. The thread was originally about selling it before moving on to how to keep it without them finding out.

Judges 19:22-29 While they were enjoying themselves, some of the wicked men of the city surrounded the house. Pounding on the door, they shouted to the old man who owned the house, "Bring out the man who came to your house so we can have sex with him."

The owner of the house went outside and said to them, "No, my friends, don't be so vile. Since this man is my guest, don't do this disgraceful thing. Look, here is my virgin daughter, and his concubine. I will bring them out to you now, and you can use them and do to them whatever you wish. But to this man, don't do such a disgraceful thing."

But the men would not listen to him. So the man took his concubine and sent her outside to them, and they raped her and abused her throughout the night, and at dawn they let her go. At daybreak the woman went back to the house where her master was staying, fell down at the door and lay there until daylight.

When her master got up in the morning and opened the door of the house and stepped out to continue on his way, there lay his concubine, fallen in the doorway of the house, with her hands on the threshold. He said to her, "Get up; let's go." But there was no answer. Then the man put her on his donkey and set out for home.

When he reached home, he took a knife and cut up his concubine, limb by limb, into twelve parts and sent them into all the areas of Israel.

    Numbers 31:7-18

They attacked Midian just as the LORD had commanded Moses, and they killed all the men. All five of the Midianite kings – Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and Reba – died in the battle. They also killed Balaam son of Beor with the sword. Then the Israelite army captured the Midianite women and children and seized their cattle and flocks and all their wealth as plunder. They burned all the towns and villages where the Midianites had lived. After they had gathered the plunder and captives, both people and animals, they brought them all to Moses and Eleazar the priest, and to the whole community of Israel, which was camped on the plains of Moab beside the Jordan River, across from Jericho.

Moses, Eleazar the priest, and all the leaders of the people went to meet them outside the camp. But Moses was furious with all the military commanders who had returned from the battle. "Why have you let all the women live?" he demanded. "These are the very ones who followed Balaam's advice and caused the people of Israel to rebel against the LORD at Mount Peor. They are the ones who caused the plague to strike the LORD's people. Now kill all the boys and all the women who have slept with a man. Only the young girls who are virgins may live; you may keep them for yourselves.

    Deuteronomy 20:10-14

As you approach a town to attack it, first offer its people terms for peace. If they accept your terms and open the gates to you, then all the people inside will serve you in forced labor. But if they refuse to make peace and prepare to fight, you must attack the town. When the LORD your God hands it over to you, kill every man in the town. But you may keep for yourselves all the women, children, livestock, and other plunder. You may enjoy the spoils of your enemies that the LORD your God has given you.

    Deuteronomy 22:28-29

If a man is caught in the act of raping a young woman who is not engaged, he must pay fifty pieces of silver to her father. Then he must marry the young woman because he violated her, and he will never be allowed to divorce her.

Im with the posters who say to show your parents a few mins of playing the game. And just do friendly activities!

Other than the bowling/ pool/ darts what is there that could be considered totally safe to show the parents? I suppose going to Cluckin' Bell is a bit safer to show them in this version than in SA as the staff are a bit less abusive and hoping you choke on their product.

OP, I feel sorry for you, but don't blame your mother and father for their gullibility on this particular topic. It's only natural for them to look after you in anyway possible, but they are sadly mistaken and easily fooled by it's reputation. All the same though, you have to be proud that they are thinking of you. You can show them many different views of posters here to persuade them to letting you keep it, or you can show them the game as many other people suggested. There is no scene in the game as other people said, the game is played as you want to play it, not the way Gerry "You Fat Twat" Ryan thinks it's played.

Niko is a good guy, just forced into the criminal world, it's not criminals acting like criminals for the sake of being criminals. Make that clear to them. Infact, if you want a lend of one particular banned game I own, I could give you it, just to show it could be worse violence and sickness wise. It's for the PSP though. But OP, good luck, don't let what your parents don't know of the game bring you down.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 144 ✭✭icemanjimbo04

Personaly id find a way to keep it, but the best way to get rid of it is to tell your parents you cant sell it and ask them to bring it back for a refund. Your parents will get a refund straight away if the shop thinks it was sold to someone under 18..

And if they dont bring it back maybe you can keep it!! :D

And then his parents will put him in an asylum for being a headcase. Niko is not real. He is a character...talking like he is real will make his parents think he is ****ed in the head.

Cool it Cheesedude, this is not how I feel. It's just something to help him convince his parents to keep it, I'm not serious or anything. Why would your parents think you're a "headcase" because of it, it's not as if they know the actual story line is it? BTW I'm 22.

No bother, but you're right, that won't work one bit! And I'll go back on my previous post; You're also right Cheesedude, that was a terribly stupid thing to say. What an awfully gay thing to say... I honestly have to stop listening to the Smiths! :o And compliments to Helix, that's clever.
