I was having problems joining games like most other people here until I opened theses ports on my router:

    UDP ports:

    6672, 28900

    TCP ports:

    8001, 27900

Now Im able to host games without being disconnected, but there still isnt many people on so get opening these ports!

If you dont know how to open ports check this site out.. http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm

is this whole port forwarding thing as big a mess as i think it is. surely the vast majority of ps3 users dont know how to forward ports (it can be difficult to be fair) and they really shouldnt have to be doing that kind of thing anyway. Is there no way people can just sign in on their connection and play online without having to worry about forward ports? Also, is there a similar situation on the xBox. It all just seems v inconvenient to me

they shouldn't have to do that????

so what's the alternative? let every port open and hope they don't get attacked?

i can see that future now then, thousands suing eircom/router manufacturers.

Am I seeing things or has nearly every PS3 game got a different set of ports required to be open. I know COD4 has a different set to usual on PS3.

The 360 has one set of UDP and TCP ranges to be open for all games.

It is not too bad to set up ports on the eircom router but I agree that it is beyond many users of any PC or games console.

The problem isnt hosting. Every one can host without problems its trying to connect to games. I can only seem get into free mode games. For every other game type i get cant connect to one or more players. really annoying

If you are getting any connection to online games or were able to host an online game even once, your ports aren't a problem. Ports setup and communications session between you and the server, period. If you have done this once, the port settings on your router are fine...

would dmz-ing your ps3 solve these problems?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 43 Padlock69

Helix, i keep seeing this mentioned, but what is it? and how do i do it?
also, I can open ports fine but i can only select my laptop as hostdevice, how do i set up my ps3 as a host device.

make sure the ps3 is in when ur tryin to forward ports to it and a dmz puts ur ps3 past the firewall but eircom routeres havent got this function

dmz means opening a machine on your network up to all traffic

would tht be like opening all the ports, or turning off ur firewall

go into your router settings and there should be an option there for dmz

however if its an eircom router, there probably wont be, theyre buggers for disabling that kinda stuff with their own firmware

well thats a kick in the tits I have the eircom one and i am frustrated with GTA online cause it's a blast when it does work

is "ip passthrough" the same thing as DMZ because that option is in the eircom neotopia router page

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 258 ✭✭donkey 2002

cheers going to try and find it do I do it with the ps3 as well

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 300 ✭✭superweld

think you just add the ip address of the ps3 to it. nothing to do on ps3.

are you connected wirelessly?? if so and that thing doesn't work then have you tried changing to nat1 with wireless

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JugGe7CCuNU

you shouldn't need to open any ports if nat1 and it's really easy to do

that was sweet well done michael your mother is calling in the background cheers man i have nat1 now but getting an error i hope this changes
