    Dublin gym damaged by fire

    Monday, 5 May 2008 07:48

A north Dublin gym has been damaged following a fire at the premises in the early hours.

Four units of Dublin Fire Brigade attended the blaze at Jackie Skelly's gym in the Applewood village in Swords.

The fire broke out around 3.30am.

It is understood a fractured gas main caught fire and spread through the building.

Karma sure is a b!tch. They probably won't even give the members their fees back for the period its closed as a result.

Drove by there this evening. It's closed as you would expect.

From what I could see, most of the damage seemed to be in the basement under reception. Not too sure if any part of Jackie Skelly's was actually on fire or just underneath. I'm sure there was smoke damage at least. There was no notice stating how long it will be closed. I'm sure we'll hear more tomorrow.

In a related incident (sorry for the hijack), there was a fire in the male changing rooms of Sanovitae, Clarion Hotel in the IFSC last week

Refurbishment started yesterday and will take two weeks.
Members do get two weeks credit though.

In the meantime you can use the gym, but no changing facilities or showers at all!

It was back open yesterday afternoon and is open as usual this morning.
Apparently there are reduced parking facilities as the underground carpark requires some fixing.

Just got a call from them. All the damage was external and they are open again. However, they don't have any gas for the moment so no pool and no showers.
