    Dear All,

I have a laptop, 2ghz RAM and going to get Vista soon.

I have a question for you since I am new to these things. At the moment I have NTL at home, and wish to connect it to my laptop. However I do not know which is the best option as regards to TV tuner cards. I wish to get something on USB if possible, since I do not wish to connect a PCI card to my laptop. Can you suggest a good product to enable me to see the channels on my laptop?

    Thanks for your help

    Johann

A friend of mine bought this hauppauge usb mce kit from dabs to record analogue on Vista on a laptop and the quality is excellent. It will work for NTL digital too.

To get NTL digital to connect to the TV encoder, you'll need to get the composite output from the NTL box. This will require splitting the SCART someway. There are many adaptors/cables available to do this.

131 EUR is quite expensive! Its almost better to get a 15 inch TV and avoid all the hassle eh!

    Will think about it then

Thanks for the reply and help

There are cheaper cards but they won't work with Media Center as media center requires a mpeg hardware encoder. Other cheaper tuners do software encoding so your laptop does the work instead. And you'd have to use some other s/w package for watching/recording. Usually you get one with the tuner you buy. Theres free ones too. Try videeohelp.com if you want to find software for this.
