How much is the Panny 5 Yr warranty worth ?

I ask because I'm faced with the usual Irish choice of getting ripped off in a 'Bricks & Mortar' shop or buying on-line & saving a few quid.

At the moment looking at the 42P(Z/Y)80 the difference is €300 which isn't to be sneezed at in anyone's money.

Is there any way of extending the warranty outside of these deals or going thru the in-store gouger deals ?

    Cheers !

5 year warranty is for 'Bricks & Mortar' shops only.
There may be difference in price but its not you getting ripped off IMO.
You are paying Irish VAT rates, staff and shops costs.. VS warehouse based online retailer.

I realise that to maintain a shop that there are costs associated. But, I don't buy that that is the sole reason for the difference.

For example I can drive up to Richer Sounds in Belfast, slap my cash on the counter & get the Plasma I want & the 5 year warranty for same as buying onlin e off komplett ( without warranty). Or spend the guts of 400 notes more to buy down here !

Its like everything else in Ireland, the retailer expects everyone to just tow the line & accept the shafting.

Which TV are you looking at that seems to be getting you so worked up?

As stated in the OP TH-42PY80 or the PZ

    Sample prices:
    Alliance Electric €1,699
    Peats €1,699
Harvey Norman, Currys Don't know, not in stock but I doubt they'll be far off Peats, & if anything they'll be more expensive.
    Komplett.ie €1,361
Richer Sounds Belfast £999 or ( €1,369 by their Conversion rate)

I can either buy on-line & live with a 1 year warranty, Or spend €20 worth of Petrol & go to Belfast.

So tell me, why Shouldn't I be 'worked up' about the difference in pricing ? As for VAT, do me a break the difference between UK & Irish VAT isn't €300.

Maybe if a few more people got 'worked up' about cartels screwing them over the last number of years we wouldn't have the most expensive cars, TVs, Milk, Bread, Houses, etc, etc !!

Whatever, I can't see the cartel in it IMO. Cost of business in Ireland is alot higher than in UK + 4% VAT difference.

That TV is €1500 with cheapest delivery option from Kompett which doesn't include the 5yr guarantee.

Its £1099 from RicherSound UK site with 5yr guarantee so conversion works out closer to shop prices here + delivery.

Alot of people here have bought from Alliance Electric and if you go into the shop, you may get a discount off the price if you are wise about it.

I could go on about your other points like the pre VAT, VRT costs of cars in Ireland is the lowest in Europe but with these is one of the pricest. I not cartel behaviour but Government levies that drives up the price.

The PZ80 is £999.99 which is the TV I specified. All the retailers are going to charge a delivery fee, are you suggesting that Alliance or Peats won't ?

I haven't dealt with A.E. but I have to say I have heard very favorible things about them, they do seem to have a lot of satisfied customers.

Its funny you don't believe that there is any evidence of cartels when finally after years of inaction we have in recent months seen investigations & prosecutions for cartel behavior in both Fuel & Car pricing. One of the main characteristics of a cartel is that the equivalent product is priced identically. You don't find it strange that both of the Irish shops are charging EXACTLY the same price ?
