MacGyver

    Oh, yes.
Today at Maker Faire 2008, MacGyver creator (and real life inspiration) Lee David Zlotoff announced he has a big budget MacGyver movie in the planning stages.

Zlotoff mentioned he somehow ended up with the movie rights years ago (extremely uncommon), giving him full control over the film. While few specifics were mentioned, and no formal announcement has been made, its extremely promising that the man with the power to make the film is getting the ball rolling. The question is...do you bring back Richard Dean Anderson as old MacGyver, or bring in a younger, Christian Bale-type to reprise the role of makeshift gadget god?

    Very cool :)

Loved this when I was younger, but I watched some old episodes a few weeks ago, and its looking really dated now...

A movie could be an opening for a new TV series.

I grew up watching this guy in action ... Been years and i don't even remember seeing repeats on RTE at all ... I want them to keep with Richard Dean Anderson but something tells me that we'll see some new young guy announcing he has been gven the role and speak about the big shoes he'll have to fill

    Oh sweet jesus yes.

It has to be RDA, it just won't work otherwise.
With so many other leading (old) men makin returns, why not?
If John McClane, Rambo, Indy and co. can come back as old heries, why not MacGyver. Cracking.
    Sam Vimes wrote:
i doubt it'll be RDA. afaik he has some problem with his knee and it had somethign to do with him dropping out of stargate
    Not true at all.
He still continued to do stunts throughout his time on Stargate so his knee can't be that bad, and he left the show to spend more time with his daughter.
(He lives in California and Stargate is made in Vancouver)

ahh god now I've the MacGyver theme stuck in my head......really can't see anyone but RDA in the part

just to stick in other peoples heads :p

MacGyver is great and it has not aged badly at all IMO. They could have a son of MacGyver being the main guy with RDA passing on the baton so to speak. And what about Dalton, who could be the new Dalton. I suppose they could have that desperate housewives slag re-appraise her role:D:D:D:D

Still watch MacGyver on FX (Sky Digital: 165 & 166), so yeah, totally agree RDA would have to be in the movie. Otherwise it'd be like James Bond playing as Indiana Jones...

I'm scared of Hollywood making an arse of this, has to be RDA or I wouldn't bother looking at it.:pac: Heres hoping, loved the show and have the DVDs.

well they made a complete balls of superman, and look what they're doing to knight rider, so i can only imagine the kinda arse they'll make of this!!

why can't they just leave good films or tv series alone!!!

greedy merchandising tards wringing every last cent out of anything good :(

I would generally agree with this view but the new Rambo was fantastic

They could (and probably will) go exactly the same route as the Knightrider reboot (MacGyver's son in the main role, with the odd cameo from RDA).

If it's not Richard Dean Anderson, it's not MacGyver. End of story

Does no one remember this? The whole thing was a bit off and there were loads of inaccuricies, the most blatant being the fact that it was about MacGyver's nephew yet in the original TV show MacGyver stated that he was an only child.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,013 ✭✭✭SirLemonhead

If they do, it HAS to be about Murdoc

I do kinda like how they left it though..you're never sure if he's dead this time or not (though of course not :D)

Could be fun,in a nostalgic cheesey Saturday afternoon remembering kinda way!

As for RDA been too old, pfffft, never.

He wasnt exactly an action hero so the age wouldnt be an issue!

I think Axeminster escaping from prison trying to kill MacGyver again would be a goo one.

In 1995 there was a pilot made for a show called "Young MacGuyver". It was about MacGuyver's nephew. It lasted only one episode...the pilot itself. No networks wanted it.

Oh and, MacGuyver was an only child...how the **** did he have a nephew?!

BUT a MacGuyver movie could work because of all us fanboys of all things 80's.

He could never kill Murdoc off, didn't
he fall down a mine shaft and then in the end of the episode, Mac got a tape and played it back..guess who..Murdoc! :D

He popped up at least once a series. the mine shaft episode was season 6. He appeared again in Season 7, playing tricks with MacGyvers head (appearing and disappearing, leaving phone messages). Of course nobody else believed him.

At the end of the episode, after foiling another one of Murdocs plans, he hops into a Pink jeep (I kid you not) and proceeds to try to run over MacGyver, who makes it to the edge of a cliff, and managed to jump out of the way at the last second. Queue usual "Macgyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyverrrr!" scream as murdoc goes over the edge in his salmon coloured Jeep :D

Dr Zito was great too. Not your usual idiotic MacgGyver villain. Should bring him back in some form or another (the actor was pretty old..)

I loved how the henchmen in the show were always balding guys wearing bad suits :D

Ahh MacGyver, what a fantastic TV show. I'd love to see a movie and of course the only person right for the role would be Richard Dean Anderson. Pete Thornton could perhaps be played by Don S.Davis who used to be Dana Elcar's stunt double on MacGyver.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,727 ✭✭✭✭Sherifu

Don S. Davis and RDA would work very well after SG1.

who was the dude in macgyver who always wore a bomber jacket, can't remember anything about about him other than the actor who played him but I can't remember his name either

There was a MacGyver movie before but not a big screen version. It was set in Britain. The actress who played Heather in Highlander turned out to be a villain. Near the end there was some kind of showdown with McGyver she shouted "I hate you!". I found it amusing.

What that the one where McGuyver hit his head and ended up having a dream of being in Scotland several hungred years ago?

There's also the film where MacGyver and Brian Blessed discover Atlantis. I remember recording it on BBC a few years back. I think the video is somewhere around the house.
