Köln is an unbelievable city and I really miss it. I was studying there up until the end of last summer and I really enjoyed myself there. The main areas for bars are the Altermarkt (tram stop Heumarkt) and Zulpicher Straße. Most of the stags tend to stay around the Altermarkt (the old part of the city, fairly touristy with the cathedral and loads of Kölsch breweries), whereas Zulpicher Straße is more studenty. There are a load of nightclubs around Rudolfplatz and Friesenplatz and then of course there's Pascha(definitely NSFW!:D). It's a stripclub, connected to an 11 story brothel (the biggest in Europe afaik). It costs €25 in and drink is free all night. Highly recommended!;)

Apart from that, there's plenty to see. The Kölner Dom, chocolate museum....em, yeah, that's about it. The beer is sooo good though, as are the pretzels and the kebabs too (Dr. Döner on Zulpicher Straße and Orient Express at the tram stop in Heumarkt in particular).

What weekend are you going? Maybe you could catch an FC Köln game if you're there before the end of the season. Bonn is only like 15 minutes away on the train aswell, if you fancied the trip.

Fly Aer Lingus to Düsseldorf and take the train from Düsseldorf to Cologne (about 40mins). In the summer, German Wings fly direct from Dublin to Cologne-Bonn.

As for where to go, it all depends on what you're looking for. If you've never been to Berlin though, I'd go there.

Well i want to go to Berlin, but theres a band we want to see and they're playing on the Thursday in Koln and Monday in berlin, so Koln suits better.

What are the people like in Cologne as compared to berlin? Are they a good laugh?

Depends on the woman tbh but for a lot of the German girls, I'd probably say no.

    Sneak edit ftw!:D

As for the people themselves, I'd definitely say yes. It's a real student city, quite relaxed and everybody's generally up for a laugh. Going out 3-4 times a week for a year, I only ever saw 1 fight in/outside a nightclub!

    Cheers thanks for the help!

Have been reading up on berliners and apparently there meant to be arseholes!? i think Koln will be better, i think we'll try that!

The truth is, the cultures are completely different. A lot of Irish lads go out, get locked, try it on with some girl who's also locked and maybe get lucky. German girls don't really tend to get locked, so you're just fighting a losing battle from the start!:D

You'll enjoy yourselves wherever you go, but if it's a choice between the 2 cities and you've never been to either, I'd really recommend that you go to Berlin. It's an amazing city with so much to see and do.

I was in berlin (just for a day) and loved it, the other 2 lads havent been. but they're dead on Koln for some reason. You know when you just get something into your head, i think thats whats after happening.

Im trying to convince them berlin be better though, but the venue for the gig in Koln is much much better, plus we may drive the campervan down to koln. That would be impossible with berlin as its to far away.

Let them know Cologne is the gay capital of Germany, if not Europe. That might change their minds.

Went down to Bruhl when I was there (ahem...Phantasialand) and then on to the Rhine some of the most breath taking sights there. But if your going on a stags you'll possibly not be able to see anything for being so legless.
