Most people go out on a Saturday night , i'm so sad i went out with old reliable 50 tonight around Temple bar , lots of action , nick Cave was in town , and first balmy day/night.
The old d50 , has run its course for me, seriously need a better camera , hopefully the 300 soon.

Nice shots Barry! Just wondering, do you get a release form signed for these sort of photo's?

    Nice shots indeed.

Why would you need a release? They're in a public place, and it's not like the images are being used commercially.

I wasn't sure if you'd need even a basic form signed to show them off online or in a portfolio or even if you were to display them in an exhibition like Barry has in the past.

i do ask - usually people are willing , if not i move on -- in fact the girl said someone else shot her without asking , so appreciated the courtesy .
The light was fading , the d 50 is slow in bad light , i really am pushing now for the faster d300 for the summer .

Barry, what ISO were you shooting at for these shots? If you left it at 200, I can understand your problems. You could try either enabling Auto ISO (camera will determine what ISO you need, depending on available light - see page 102 of this PDF of the user manual or page 92 of your paper manual to set this up) or manually bumping it up to 400, 800 or even 1600. For the type of photos you take, a little grain could actually add to the atmosphere.

I found the D50 to be pretty damn good (especially with the 50mm f/1.8) in low light conditions. Of course you have to be careful at larger apertures with things like depth of field...

If you already tried the above, disregard and carry on saving for that D300! :)

don't think they were a couple , the guy was behind Central Bank .The girl was heading to the Nick Cave gig -- more blurry due to deteriorating light -- sometimes i like the blurry non standard look myself.

Regarding the d 50 , i have experimented a lot with its iso , and find quality very poor above iso 400 .
The d 300 i tried, Darrens , seamed a lot crisper and faster.

one more from last night around Temple bar , the bright red door gives it a bit of kick , and i rarely post females

Fair enough. I found up to ISO 800 on the D50 quite usable and at 1600 using something like Noise Ninja made the images perfectly acceptable for me. One thing to watch out for with noise and the like, is underexposure; too much and you'll see a lot more noise, especially in the shadows/dark areas.

Sounds like you've made your mind up with the D300, but for half the price (or even less), you can pick up a second-hand D200. Sure it doesn't have the high ISO capabilities of the D300, but it will save you a bundle and still be a big step-up from the D50. :)

Donno what's nicer, her, the red door or The Clash badge she has on!

Your right about the door, gives the picture a great kick.

    :)

was going to go down the 200 route , but most people advised to save the xtra bobs for the 300 , so thats the current plan, but it could change ;-)

another big Clash fan here, love the photos shot in Belfast '77 in the NME , major influence on me and what i do.
