Lidl NEC VT59 projector €500 - any use ?

    leaflet says 25dB in eco mode and up to 4,000 hours on the lamp , focus / zoom are manual , 28Kg

    lidl says 2100 ANSI lumens - other sources say 1600 !!

    is this any use ?

    1024x768 - how does this compare to 720 for HDTV or is that optimistic ?

    It looks pretty good except for the contrast ratio. 600:1 is pretty bad.

    Good for boardroom, education use.

    But would't be much use for home theatre.

    I know nothing about projectors other than I want to buy one for Home Cinema style use. Why would this not suit and if 600:1 is a bad contrast ratio, then what would a decent one be?

    Check out this thread.

    Some of the recommended features of a Home Theatre projector are:

    - Native aspect ratio of 16:9. (Business/Education projectors are 4:3)
    - Resolution of 720P (1280 x 720) or similar. (B/E are 4:3)
    - Contrast Ratio of 3000:1 or greater.
    - HDMI connection.

    At the moment you are looking at splashing out about €650+

    Cheers for the info. Any in particular you would recommend for the lower end of the price range in addition to that Optoma? Wouldn't be buying now, though I would have if that Lidl one was any cop.
