Well the best band in Ireland hands down have relased thier album today but due to exams I cant buy it until tomorrow. They have put up a few of the new tunes on thier myspace. The guitar sound on 'puquito' is ****in sweet and the piano on '13 shots' sounds amazing. I remember hearing them play puquito a few weeks back during the U.L rag week show and it sounded amazing then even though I could barely walk. The song 'When im gone' reminds me of 'Tuesdays Gone' by lynyrd skynyrd and is nothing like Loose have ever done before and it sounds like its going to be a bit of an epic tune.

Anyway I have been looking forward to this album release for months and Im ****ing delighted its finally out and from what I hear so far its a class act. They have made the keyboads a more prominent part of the band on this record and the back up singers are used a lot more too which is cool. Republic of Loose are another one of those Irish bands to boast about and love and still get to see in small intimate venues.

Everybody give your views on the new album if you have heard it or just on the songs on the myspace if its all you got. Oh and if you have the time check out Loose performing "nothing compares 2 u" with sinead o connor at the academy. Brilliant stuff.

Heres the myspace http://www.myspace.com/republicofloose and heres the tune with sinead http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=30FsxOZnFFc

They are excellent all right. The lead singer's voice is just remarkable. I saw them perform live on that programme Other Voices (you know the one in the church presented by John Kelly). Good god I was utterly spellbound. The lead singer was like a gospel veteran. Beautiful stuff. So soulful and raw. They deserve to do really well - here's hoping.

Really? I was sure Spectre and Crown came out a few weeks ago? :D

Ah, sorry. It was just too tempting.

Given the unfettered praise heaped upon them by the Irish music press and broadsheets, I sometimes have to wonder if my own love of the band is based purely on patriotism. But they're just so damn good. Too many tracks again though.

Has Irish music gotten THAT bad?

I cant stand them. Ok I might not be the best to judge but anytime i hear them it sounds like that one guy just repeats himself in every line. Its like listening to Homer simpsons rappin ronny regan tape deck over and over and over again.

Well obviously someone who compares mick pyros voice to homer simpsons is highly musically retarded. I wouldnt judge Republic Of Loose until you them live. They are just brilliant. Lyrically they are the best band in the country with U2.

Yeah thats true- but I think maybe if you listened to other funk and soul bands you would find that this is commonplace. Its so difficult to get a funk/soul band up and running in Dublin (of all places) you have to give them some credit for their originality- they could have, as every other band is doing, played indie (which is pure sh1t).

Yes it has. Rep. of Loose may not be brilliant- but they'd knock the boll0x off any indie band in Dublin at the moment.

RoL are great live. went to one of their gigs last month and was blown away (admittedly I was quite drunk :p). As for the support act, the millionaire boyz

Yep, the repetition in their songs really bugs me. Well so do the music and lyrics, they're just not my type of band, but mainly it's the repetition. One of the few bands that will make me switch channels on the radio.

I'm always suspicious of unbridled acclaim for Irish acts but I think it's warranted where these guys are concerned. I keep forgetting they're Irish anyway.

Big fan of Loose. Aaagh! seemed like it would be very hard to top, but they seem to have done it with the new album. Great diversity and a lot of new sounds. Very impressed!

Why, do they brush their hair over to the left instead of the right? do they wear stripey hoodies instead of check ones? do they get daddy to buy them a strat instead of a les paul?

    Indie music, Jesus christ...

What the verdict on the new album ? Saw them live a few weeks ago and they were great.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 500 ✭✭✭zuchum

Hmm...not sur eyet, some of the songs I don't think are as catchy/funky as the older albums, although that 'Drop' song is brilliant...the filthiest thing I've heard in a long time,in that good Republic of Loose filthy style...

really? They're one of one of the few bands that won't make me scream, throw the radio out the window and wonder why I turned it on in the first place...

They actually deserve international success, unlike say, snow patrol... who just deserve a good solid kick in the boll0x. But that's show biz I guess

==>I agree, they're not absolutley brilliant or anything- but look at the local alternatives (Director, etc.- all that indie sh1te); you have to admit R.O.L. shine through.

Best band in dublin ? Am I hearing things.

ROL are terrible. This is the state Irish music is in at the moment.
When bands like this are being hyped up and played everywhere.

    Just bad bad music.

People have their sights set way to low in the people they worship these days. Putting ROL and u2 in the same sentence is laughable.

==>I don't see the the problem, U2 are pure sh1t and its possible to argue that R.O.L. are too; but they're better than the other pure sh1t thats around Dublin.

Never really heard much of their stuff apart from the songs that got airplay. But I'd find it difficult to get into them after that song Break. It was a fúcking atrocity.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,466 ✭✭✭Blisterman

Great album. One or two songs a bit shakey (Like the second Telephone song), but overall some really good stuff.

They had a cover of "We people, who are darker than Blue" with Sinead O Connor, on their Myspace page a while back which was great. They should have put that on the Album.

I don't understand what people are saying, about them being repetitive. I don't know too many bands, who's sound varies as much as theirs.

Listen to Sweet Cola of Mercy, then Break, then Girl I'm gonna f*ck you up. Not repetitive at all.

Haven't decided what I think fully of the new album yet. 'Got' is great, 'I.R.I.I.S.H.' is cool except for Mick's completely uninspiring lyrics (apparently he wants everyone to suck his dick.. surprised?), but I can't help but feel underwhelmed on the whole. I'll give it a few more spins, it ain't uncommon for me to take a while to like something.

New drummer (Andre) is brilliant though.

I like bits and pieces of it.

The Steady Song, 23 Things..., 13 Shots, Awful Cold and I Like Music are really good but some of it like I.R.I.I.S.H. and The Telephone leave a bit to be desired but it is growing on me.

I've been listening to Tomb of the Juice a lot lately and I'm surprised it hasn't done as well as Aaagh!

Anyone going to the gig in the Ambassador?

going to gig tonight. Anyone know who's supporting?

How was the gig?? I love the Loose - so wicked live!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,466 ✭✭✭Blisterman

Tomb of the Juice, had some of the best songs, they've done to date (Hold up, Girl I'm gonna f*ck you up, Ride with Us), but there were a few songs, which were just tedious IMO (Slow Down, Lawn Child), so it's a hard album to enjoy from Start to Finish.

Aaggh was a bit more consistantly good. The only song I didn't like was Mary Caine.

Johnny Pyro.. Is, as I said before mostly good stuff, few weak songs, some moments of genius. I haven't listened to it enough times to really compare it to the previous two albums, however.
