DIESEL on Suffolk Street, beside Habitat, have a selection of men's polo shirts on special offer.

€15 each or 3 for €40. Picked one up myself earlier marked €45, but reduced at till.

Selection is limited, but decent enough and available in a good range of sizes.

    +1

Off topic - but anyone know how they get away with this? I would have thought that the 'real' Diesel clothing company would have had all options of its name trademarked and protected and so on. These guys are blatant.

I used to work there, was always amazed how many people thought the stuff was italian diesel.
It's not fake diesel really, it's a different company, selling different clothes on a very different price scale.
They registered the name in Ireland (1979 according to my t-shirt) before the italian Diesel. afaik, as aresult, the italians aren't allowed to open a diesel shop in ireland.
I don't know all the details, I never bothered to look into it in detail. I'm sure a quick wiki search would give you the full story.
Anytime I was asked why the stuff was so cheap I told people it was a different company (well, most of the time:p)

    Did someone say cheap?? I wouldn't call €32 for a t-shirt cheap.

Anyway, if it's not Diesel Diesel or Italian Diesel, fair enough. Glad I didn't buy the 3 for €40 now....

    Live and learn.

I always wondered what the story was with Diesel and why the stuff in Tk Maxx etc was different to those shops.

I was told a similar story by the girl who owns the shop that sells the proper diesel stuff next to the Brown Thomas carpark.

She said that the orginal diesel company only registered the name before 1979 in the UK thinking that it included the ROI!

Some guy spotted this and set up the "fake" deisel clothing line. You can def tell the quality is no where near as good. And real deisel never splash the name across everything like the fake stuff. Diesel Varsity and all that tack.

Often wondered about this myself. There's a real tacky looking shop in the Ilac centre shouting Diesel with T-shirts from €10. Always thought they were fakes and wondered how they could get away with selling fakes so blatently. Now I know eh! :)

Its not a fake shop so get your facts straight first. It may not be the Diesel brand from Italy but it's a legal Irish brand.

One must admit that the Irish chain are benefiting from people mistaking
    them for the Italian brand.

I have no absolutely no doubt that the Irish "Diesel" pitch themselves as the worldwide brand to uninitiated shoppers. Smart move finding the loophole, but I question their integrity.

Perhaps (and I'm probably agree), but the irish name was registered long before the Italian brand came to Ireland so you can't just expect them to pack up because a bigger, more established international brand came to Ireland.

I wouldn't shop in it personally because I don't actually like the clothing, but they are 100% legit, and one can't go around saying they are selling fake diesel clothes when they are not.

They are probably legit alright, but it is certainly false Diesel clothing, to my mind. My guess is they're waiting for the day Diesel Italy produce a tidy "cash settlement" to cease distribution, though from what I've heard they aren't taking aboard the issue due to the relatively small size of our market.

Brilliant thread. My husband bought a pair of the Irish Diesel Jeans in Dublin airport about three months ago. He will be gutted if I tell him they're not THE DIESEL. Best say nothing
