Anyone know why they changed the sign on that building on O'Connell Bridge from Guinness to Heineken?? I know it's a long time changed now but I drive by every morning and it crosses my mind every time.. Anyone?

It was 'SONY' for many years before that.

Huh... Yeah I know it's an ad just thought it was a lot of trouble to take all those illuminated letters down off a building, it's not like just sticking one poster on over the other but I guess you're right..

To a lot of people O'Connell Bridge House is 'The Heineken Building' as if that's where their headquarters are or something.

It was 'SONY' for many years before that.

    And was "HARP" before that...

Its a real block of sh1t anway - designed by Desmond Fitzgerald (brother of Garret) in the '60s - I just wish that it was this yoke that would get whacked, rather than Liberty Hall :(

Was it not 'HARP' after 'SONY' - hence the 'Harp Bar'?

I thought this was the situation? I remember Harp -> Guinness -> Heiniken.

Wonder what the yearly advertising costs are for the sign

It was 'SONY' for much of the 1980s. I remember a girlfriend at the time used to pronounce it "sonny" which used to amuse me! That was circa. 1988.
