Hey, I was actually just about to post up a question about using windows on mac when I saw this.
I want to know how to do that? Is it a software that has to be installed in order to run a Windows os on the mac? If so what is and where do I get it?
    Thanks,

    VV

You can run windows on a intel mac with bootcamp which allows you to run windows as a dualboot with OSX http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/bootcamp.html

    or

    You can install http://www.parallels.com
which allows you to run windows ontop of OSX

Just google bootcamp + apple. Boot camp assistant does it all for you.

    Beat me to it!!
Other options are Parallels or VmWare fusion.
Third way is Crossover ( dont need copy of OS to use)link
All can only be used on Intel based Mac.

Must be Intel based for Bootcamp.

Ok, I have a intel based macbook with OSX... not sure exactly what version and I'm in work so I can't check. I don't have leopard....
Do I have to get that to run bootcamp? do I have to get that bootcamp thing in order to run windows?

A solution just as good ( if not better then Parallels) VMware Fusion
    http://www.vmware.com/products/fusion/
    Download trial and try...:)

You have to have Leopard to run bootcamp, you don't really need bootcamp to run windows you can use the VM software or http://www.parallels.com without the need for bootcamp

Nope not that I'm aware of, Bootcamp would be the nearest to free...once you buy the new OSX

I use parallels. I hated bootcamp because i had to to shut down my imac and i like leaving my computer in sleep mode. Well, it bugged me, might not bug most.

I moved to mac in november 2006 because i felt save knowing i had windows as a back up, plus three web sites ( at that time) only worked on windows .
I only use windows for one reason now, bank of ireland business on line only works with windows. The day, if it ever comes, that bank of ireland support mac will be a happy day for me. It will mean that the need for me to use windows will be slim to none.
I laugh at my virgin-ness now ( feeling safe buying an intel mac so i could have windows). Although i did need windows too, for 3 other reasons. But the great thing is, that i only have 1 reason now. lets hope i have no reason some day

    Velvet, hows your UNIX?
This a free but complex option which Crossover grew out of.link

Triple h, strange my BoI365 works perfectly with Safari. If you have website issues try a different browser ( Firefox, Opera, Camino blah blah )

It's not Banking 365 that's the problem, it's Business Online, the corporate account version. AFAIK it uses Active X controls, so it'll only work with IE, but I could be wrong - try user agent switcher as suggested I guess and see how you get on.

Ah yes, good old Active X, your screwed on that one Im afraid. Good to see BoI adhering to the W3C standards. Im sure it has something to do with security issues!:D

The wife's MacBook uses Crossover to run IE for BoI Business Online - shame the bank sticks to making you use such a (relatively) insecure browser

jesus, thanks for the tip lads.
I will report back in a few days time about this. Why, will it does not seem to be working just yet, but that does not mean it wont. Sometimes on bank holiday weekends business on line will not even work on windows xp.

If you're going to go down the Crossover route rather than VM/Parallels/Bootcamp, save yourself the cash and Google ies4osx. Free alternative if all you want is IE.

I have Windows XP SP2 installed on my Mac using Parallels, but I find it fairly unresponsive a lot of the time. Not exactly a pleasure to use.

It's a Macbook Pro 2.2GHz 2GB RAM. I've allocated 512MB RAM to the guest operating system. Any tips on how to make Windows run more smoothly?

    Thanks in advance

    Hey guys,
Thanks so much for all the advice. I decided to contact the makers of the software I wanted to run and they've sent me a beta version for mac so I'm not going to bother running windows on it now.
But thanks a million and I hope this post was of help to others too!

For anyone interested, I downloaded the beta of Fusion 2.0 today. Maybe it's just m imagination but it seems to be even faster, and no stability issues so far. Still makes my poor little 1st gen MacBook's fans go nuts for a while when it's opened but apart from that all's good, and it's a free upgrade for v1 users to the full version when it comes out - very impressed with that!

Edit: Seems to be giving a bit of trouble accessing shared folders.
