New O2 forums ?

So, still toying with my whole inner debate of whether to just let go to temptation and get an iPhone or do the sensible thing and forget it, I was browsing around the o2.ie website, and noticed that they have a user forum. It looks pretty empty, and I searched around here a bit and couldn't see anyone talking about it so I guess it's a new addition. (it's on http://forums.o2.ie )

I couldn't help but wonder how it's going to work out, I guess it's pretty well moderated by o2 but I'm wondering if it's the best move ever to open up a channel to criticism, it's kind of a double-edged thing don't you think, if it's too loose it'll go haywire, if it's too strictly moderated it'll just look totally fake... Must be pretty tricky to get right, eh ?

A tricky one to pull off indeed, I look forward to seeing how it goes. Judging from the first post it only launched yesterday morning, I might sign up and test the waters, see how open they are to some feedback!

    Very interesting indeed.

You sure you got the URL right though? I got a 404.

    It's actually - http://forums.o2online.ie/

Link is at the top of the website.

You also need a valid O2.ie login to register.

At first glance it's a brilliant idea. A way to (hopefully) ensure the accuracy of your data as if O2 are putting it down in writing then it can't be passed off as one agents mistake on the phone if they give out the wrong info.

It asks for the Account name and Mobile number, I would wonder what they use this for? Surely some element of being anonymous should be allowed on the forum for them to get true and honest feedback.

I dislike how it's only "open" during business hours 9-5 as advertised on the forum. Their customer care is 24hours, so should be the presense on the forum.

All in all I'm very interested to see how it goes and to see if other networks follow suit.

Interesting alright! Have to say not something I would expect from O2!
I registered and it looks pretty good! There's only one real post where O2 replies and to be fair it was sorted in a few minutes .. I agree though it'll only take off if they don't delete or moderate the hell out of anything that is even slightly negative... it'll be interesting to watch how they handle those posts coming through ;)

BTW random I registered and didn't need a o2.ie account just to be an o2 customer (I never wasted my time registering on o2.ie and got accepted no hassle!)
I agree it's stupid though only being able to post during the day... do you think they'd change it though if it was being used? Nearly all of the stickies mention it's a "trial" so maybe if it works out they'll sort that out!

It'd be nice to see everyone following them and having the sense to do the same, it's about time companies realised that it's the 21st century and forums are a massive opportunity to talk to customers! So in that sense fair play to O2 for kicking it off.... but I'll be reserving judgement until I see what they do when someone gives them a hard time! :D

Has your account been activated yet? I assumed they validated the fields manually as they make them mandatory ?

Yeah got the confirmation email through gmail within a few minutes of registering! I didn't notice anything asking about an o2.ie account - does it say it somewhere?

O2 dont require you to have an O2.ie email to register but they offer you one if you dont have email.

Handy enough site anyway, gave me some advice about sorting out my broadband connection through Vista which has been driving me nuts and so far so good... cheaper than a call to Care anyway eh! ;)

Yeah, the open 9-5 thing surprised me too, but I guess it's probably not worth them employing people to watch the thing 24/7 until there's a bit more activity. I totally agree with SallyCinnamon, if you can get online it's way neater and cheaper than a call to care, which is why a 24/7 service would be so great... Fingers crossed.
