Got an A and E bill through the door this morning. Is cheque the only way to pay? Does it even have to be paid?

Some people don't pay. But you probably lose any right to complain about the health service if you don't.

Oh I have nothing but praise for the health service following my experience. In and out in an hour and a half, and the hospital was empty. A splendid service!
I am going to pay if there is another method of payment as I do not have a chequebook account

I don't know the ins and outs of it, mate, but there's one or 2 admin people who pop into the forum sometimes. They might be able to point you in the right direction.

It would seem strange if such a cash strapped service only accepted cheques. But very little would surprise me :P

Glad to hear you had a positive experience. Hope someone here can answer your question.

Over the last 6 years or so I've had the pleasure of being in A & E about 6 times, usually due to sporting injuries but not once have I received a bill. I've no problem paying and I've even asked for my bill a few times, the reply "Oh you'll get it by post" my reply "I didnt get the last 3" "oh i'll make sure you get this one"... I'm still waiting!"

My dad paid mine by credit card. I wasn't going to pay.

Oh yeah it does have to be paid alright, my friend hadn't been able to check her mail for a week or two and there were three letters waiting for her, the last one was threatening to pass the debt onto their collection service!

You can generally phone up and pay by credit card
