I thought i'd create a thread to see how many people would use this application, and more importantly to ask is there anyone out their who is up for the job of writing this program?

I know there are a few that already have wrote programs on here(AFT,Cabbage. etc.) but i'm sure there are other people that are well up for the job aswell.

So whos with me? Who would like this app made?

Would you use it? 19 votes

I don't plan on writing it coz i've got no experience in programming apart from a bit of pascal! Not sure what it needs to be written in to be honest.

probably java or proprietary S60 C++. i try to stay away from that stuff. tis nasty

its probably doable in python though ( very easy language ). are you thinking of a network-based thing or a fixed set of hard-coded timetables, or a reader for downloadable timetables

So whats the point of this thread then if you aren't gonna write it? Is it basically to put pressure on vimes to publish his own application that he has written?

i haven't written that app exactly. It gets the train time tables, both the commuter and real time dart ones. I never thought of doing a bus one because i always thought those time tables were mostly for entertainment purposes, ie useless

is that bus text thing real time or does it just give the next bus from the timetable?
If they don't just use the time tables, is the info available on the net somewhere?

it really wouldn't take much modification to get my train time app to do buses too

I'm suppose just a set of downloadable timetables, dublin bus don't have anything more accurate to go by.

The point if this thread is to try and find someone who will write it, i'm not trying to put any pressure on anyone, and as far as i know he has never mentioned even writing this program. Theres more people that could write it than him.

Well if your intertested Vimes, as far as i know they don't have any real-time service, they just have the timetables on their website.

http://www.dublinbus.ie/home/ has a timetable search box this might be easy to incorporate?

I found rail times... Very nice indeed :pac:

Can't test if it's working or not.. No coverage in the lecture theatre :(
