Duathlon Advice

Planning on taking part (not competing) in the Dublin Duathlon series, the 1st one is on next Wednesday and I am still debating on whether or not to use clipless pedals and use the transition as an opportunity to change shoes under race conditions or just use standard pedals for the evening and just move straight from the run to bike and reduce my transition time?

My main purpose for doing the duathlons is as a brick training session for triathalons during the summer,

    advice welcomed.

Doing my first duathlon next week in the park. I'm going with the clipless pedals based pretty much on the fact that I'll need to do this during a triathlon so the practice will do me good, I hope!

As you are not competing, I think that you should use clipless pedals for exactly the reason you give - an opportunity to practice changing under race conditions.

I am having the same debate (I'll be competing but I'm generally around 30th, depending on the crowd). My alternative is to use toe straps - that might be a solution for you too as you'll get good power transfer and a quick transition.

Might go with the toe straps. It will be the June duathlon, as I am in the states on business the week the 1st event in now on. It would have been great to get a duathlon in before Athy as it will be my first Tri in 3 years.
