    OKay... here we go!

I know this is gonna be difficult, as there's so many different styles, eras etc to be taken into account. I'd still like to see what everyone comes up with though.

Here are a few I'd put forward to start it off:

Mama said knock you out-- LL Cool J
    Come Clean-- Jeru The Damaja
    Keep ya Head up-- 2pac
    Straight outta Compton-- N.W.A.
Rebel Without a Pause-- Public Enemy
    Childrens Story-- Slick Rick
    Unbelievable-- Biggie Smalls
    The World is yours-- Nas
    Tonight's Da night-- Redman
    Let Me Ride-- Dr. Dre
Gin & Juice-- Snoop Doggy Dogg
Shook Ones Pt. II-- Mobb Deep
Don't believe the hype-- Public Enemy
    F*ck the Police-- N.W.A.
    Full Clip-- GangStarr
    C.R.E.A.M.-- Wu- Tang Clan
    Memory Lane-- Nas
Hood Took me under-- Compton's Most Wanted
It takes two-- Rob Base & DJ EZ Rock
    Boom-- Royce Da 5'9"
Worst comes to worst-- Dilated Peoples

I could go on all day! :)

I'll throw these few out aswell to get it rolling:

Elevators (me & you) - Outkast
In Between Us - Scarface & Nas
    Brooklyn Zoo - Old Dirty
You Never Know - Immortal Technique
The Overly Dramatic Truth - El-P
Protect ya Neck - Wu Tang
    Dead Presidents II - Jay-Z
Da Rocwilder - Meth and Red (Purely as a crazy party track!!)
Wrath of Kane - Big Daddy Kane

I'll think of more later, agree with lot of OPs tracks, full clip by gangstar is superb

    Rather Unique - AZ...

    Yeah thats about it.

I'd have to disagree with the El-P suggestion! Even as an El-P fan! If I was to put in one El track it would be 'Stepfather Factory' or 'Deep space 9mm'

    No Rakim yet!

Eric B is President - Eric B and Rakim
Let the rhythm hit em' - Eric B and Rakim
I aint no joke - Eric B and Rakim
Follow the Leader - Eric B and Rakim

    and i'd throw in...

    No Regrets - Aesop Rock
    Early mornin' Tony - Felt
    Ether - Nas

    and finally!

Da' mystery of Chessboxin' - Wu-Tang Clan, cant believe this wasnt mentioned! The last verse has one of the greatest verses EVER "Homocide is illegal and death is the penalty? what justicfies the homcide, when he dies?!"

    Kurtis Blow - The Breaks

Have to say I prefer 7th Chamber: "Champion gear I rock, you get yo boots knocked..." Or Clan In Da Front: "The Wu is comin through, the outcome is critical, f*ckin with ma style is sorta like a miracle..."

I started writing a list but it's just too difficult.
But one song that I always come back to is Aesop Rock - No Regrets.

Honestly, you could answer this thread with OutKast alone. Crumblin' Erb comes to mind straight away.

****, which track off their first three albums wasn't incredible?

Art of StoryTelling Pt. II not incredible......it ridiculously incredble lol

I listen to a lot of music so kinda hard to pick all time favorites but I'm gonna focus a bit on the old school here:

    Audio Two - Top Billin
(sampled over and over and over, latest well known sampling would be in 50's I get money): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=igAS5-276wU

Can't believe noone has mentioned Das EFX? They have some really dope beats:
    They want EFX:

    Real Hip Hop:

    Gangstarr - Mass Appeal:

    Here's a few

Haha, the first one won't play in the embedded window for some reason but while I was listening to the rest I thought of Black Sheep and was thinking "Engine Engine nr 9, on the NY transit line..." and it wasn't until after I listened to all the tracks and then managed to click through the first one to take me to youtube and saw it actually is Black Sheep :D.

Can only say I'm a fan of the first 2 in your list though, KRS one always rocks on!

    So,

A handy trick to find out how people do stuff like that in their posts is to quote the post, that way you get to see the tags used.

gh, wtf do people embed youtube links?!!? It always plays alot slower than when you just watch it directly from youtube.

Makaveli, can you name the videos posted, in order? If I play one, decide I dont like it and go on to the next, the one I dont like is still loading, so it slows the whole lot down.

Only listened to the Big L one, never heard it before. Fookin quality.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,503 ✭✭✭Makaveli

You can click on the videos and it will open a new tab (in Firefox anyway, don't know about other browsers) and load the video in youtube instead.

Black Sheep - The Choice Is Yours
    KRS-One - Step Into A World (Rapture's Delight)
    Organized Konfusion - Stress
Main Source - Live At The BBQ
Big L - Put It On
Black Moon - How Many Emcee's
A Tribe Called Quest - Scenario (Feat. Leaders of the New School)
    Smif-N-Wessun - Wontime
Masta Ace - Take A Walk

I cant really many tracks out cause i know hip-hop has got some classics!

But some of the tracks that come to mind or more like the tracks that im listening to a lot lately would be:

J Dilla - Believe in god
J Dilla - Last donut of the night
    J Dilla - People
    Common - Misunderstood
    Common - Testify
Talib Kweli - more or less
    Gza - Animals

    Hip Hop... One Love

  • Registered Users Posts: 205 ✭✭2-ShortDa5foot5

    ICommon - Testify

Also "Heaven & Hell" By Raekwon & Ghostface. Just started listening to the Cuban Linx album and this is easily one of the best tracks on it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 575 ✭✭✭5ForKeeps

    Sugarhill Gang - Rappers Delight
    Warren G - Regulate
Dre & Snoop - Nuthin But G Thang and Gin and Juice
    2Pac & Dre - Changes & California Love
    Biggie - Juicy

From purely a beefin point of view Hit Em Up by 2Pac was class. Kanye West changed the type of Hip Hop we were normally used too, his frist album was a ground breaker. The Jigga man has to get a mention, off the top of head Dirt Off Your Shoulder, the beat on that record was unreal.
