Help...did a clean up and lost my sound

I was doing a clean up of my computer because it was running so slowly. So I removed a bunch of programmes, cleared some things from starting up via the msconfig, did a scan disk and defragged and all the rest.

Then I realised I have no sound:(

I went to "Add Hardware" in Control Panel, and according to that it says that The drivers for the "Multimedia Audio Controller" need to be installed.

But I've no idea how to do this, and it doesn't give a model number or anything that I could even go and look for the drivers.

I'm running Service pack 2, but I don't have the Windows XP CD's with me.

    Any help much much appreciated.

What make & model is the PC (if any)?

    Mike.

Oh yeah forgot to mention that!

It's a factory refurbished IBM Thinkpad that I bought off Ebay, which could make this a little more troublesome:(

The model number of the machine should be located somewhere on it. Then go here and find the right model.
