    If it had to shut down one of its engines shortly after take off, why the hell didn't return to Dublin instead of dragging the 30 passengers right across the country on one engine? Crazy IMO. At least everyone arrived safely.

    There were 2 other engine shutdowns on flights from Kerry and Donegal. However the ATR should be able land safely on one engine.

    Quite agree, but surely you would head for the nearest airport, like they did on the previous occasions. What if, god forbid, the other engine had packed up?

    Maybe EINN was the nearest airport. 'Shortly after take off' as reported by RTE doesn't specify where the a/c was when the incident occurred.

    I'm happy to hear everyone was OK in the event.

    EINN is the airport which you divert to by default in Irish airspace because of its long runway, but if the pilot diverted to EINN it obviously wasn't a problem that would immediatly affect the wellbeing of the passengers as EICM is closer to Dublin. Not by much...but closer all the same...

    Not crazy at all just standard procedure for all airlines to continue if the commander feels its safe to do so and all is well with the other engine. Must have been a bit unnerving for the passengers though considering how noticeable a prop shutdown would be, on a jet the passengers wouldnt even notice and it is fairly common.

    In this particular case the aircraft was a Fokker 50 operated on behalf of Aer Arann by the company VLM and not an ATR as previously mentioned.
