    http://www.upc.ie/internet/broadband

im thinking of getting t'internet installed at home and was wondering if anyone else is using this service with their ps3. is their any issues?

they offer a wireless option for an extra 49 euro. should i go with this or would the best option be to buy my own router.

i'm kinda new to networking so any help appreciated.

You'd be better off asking on the Broadband forum

Personally, I'd go with Digiweb. We used them in college. It shouldn't matter what ISP you go with, but I have heard stories IBB have some issues.

I'm using that package with the PS3, works great, I get excellent ping times to warhawk servers etc.

Their wireless router is pretty decent too, wouldn't have the advanced options you can get with some others, if you need that, but for most uses it works very well for the price.

Hmnnn the OP didn't mention IBB. I'm using the broadband express package from UPC with my PS3 and I reguarly play COD4 online. I haven't had any issues. It's pretty much silky smooth.

I have UPC Broadband and havent had any problems playing online with it.

IIB kept disconnecting me and in the end I just gave up. I followed all the guides, enabling DMZ, opening ports etc

In the end UPC Broadband was hassle free. They do provide you with a free

Netgear Wireless router and im sure the UPC engineer will give you a hand
connecting your PS3 to the router ... but to be honest its very easy to setup without any computer or network knowledge

As above there are no problems playing COD4 online if you have UPC. I play it almost every night.

I play Cod4 on the PC and ever since I got upc my ping in game has been a little bit bad, The modem is downstairs and I use the wireless dongle, I am a computing student and I know all the tricks of wireless etc.

is it possible to open ports and enable DMZ for UPC PC connection? If so how?

i always had issues with UPC. even with my PS3 in DMZ and 40MB package.
there's always a lag in the game.
u can't really notice and it depends on game servers too but UPC does not provide continuous connection IMO. but have no idea what else ISP i can get xD
