I got an investor who wants to invest 50k in my poker.
What would you do to make this work.
Want to enter tournaments over 100 dollars.
    Any advice please.
More importantly what would you do in this situation.
Would you play 100rb on stars, play big live tournaments, or whatever.
    What would yo do.
    Thanks

Go to the WSOP, pretend you played in all events, give reports of unlucky bubble hands etc. Get some photos of you playing a satellite and say its the main event. And sell off more % to friends and family.

want advice on the best way forward in this,
and secondly if you were in the situation how would you approach this,
giving yourself a 3 month plan

Who are you and why would someone offer to invest 50k in you playing tournaments?
What are the terms of this offer and where can I get one.

If you want to make money thats serious advice, if you want to bleed him dry slowly play every $100 tourney you find.

Attacking the WSOP would be a sensible option tho. Set up over there for a month, play a few 1k tournaments in Venitian etc and a few side events and sats for the ME.

your not really explaining much - before even attempting to answer you'd have to be more direct
what Q's are you stumbling on . . . more info needed, as it seems pretty straightforward

tell him to stake phantomlord or nick for 5/10 if he wants to make money. if he wants to try and gambool it up tru you then play every 100$ rebuy, 1k monday/tuesday, sunday major you can find.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,163 ✭✭✭Slash/ED

How experienced are you? What do you play (Limits and tounrey/cash)? It's an ambigious question...I'd stick with cash games, take a roll of 50k for a decided period of time and when that time is reached give him half the profit and the original 50k

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 69 ✭✭pokerplayer

Holl, you think the tournament option only, will not work so,
even with 50k to take the ups and downs

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,822 ✭✭✭tipp86

why is it never someone with a lot of posts and people know there name that come up with these threads??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,537 ✭✭✭Ste05

If you're Phil Ivey it sounds good, although since we don't have a notion who you are there's nothing really we can say.

Other then go play as many tournaments in the next 3 months and see how you do, have you ever played Poker before??

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 69 ✭✭pokerplayer

can I just ask you to put yourself in this situation and tell me what would you do, he wants tournaments only, my standard is fairly good,
so can you take it from there.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,724 ✭✭✭nicnicnic

while I would probably go to vegas and blow the lot there as a money making exercise I don't think it gives you the best chance of a positive roi

I'd say forget about anything under €500 buyin, pick maybe 20 tournament Play a mix of tournaments between €500 and €1500 the gukpt fall into this category, Pick a few bigger shots maybe three ( irish open and two of the lower buyin smaller field epts ). try get 20% on top off him for expenses.

off the twenty a deep run a three would be very decent and with luck this will include one of the big shots.

ps if he wants to try for another $50k I'm available for negotiations

sure, go for it. its a 50k freeroll for you. if you win a major for like 200k your up like 100k. thats what id do if someone gave me a 50k freeroll. if you want to come out of this after 3 months with a substantial personal profit and the opportunity for more stakes id just play 12 table 400nl or something.

How the hell did you get a 50k freeroll stake anyway. If hes that rich tell him id like to take shots at nosebleed PLO. Im sure im +ev in some line ups. I will game select well and only play 20bbs deep. Sure winnar imo

nicnic this is kind off my approach as well, have to give him a rough plan

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 69 ✭✭pokerplayer

Holl, by playing 12 table 400nl, do you mean just sit there and play super tight

Just head over to the WSOP and play as many events as you can... There's plenty over there, there's also loads going on in the other Casino's at the time, if he wants you to play the 50k within 3 months just move over to Vegas for 2 of them and play lots of tournaments.

I can't think of any other options.

But honestly the more info you give us, the better replies you'll get, thus far all we know is some guy gave some other guy 50k to play tournaments. So Vegas for the WSOP seems like the only option.

If you even told us whether you're a Live or Online player it might help.

I would presume you would end up a loser if you did this.

No offence pokerplayer but you don't really sound like you know what you are talking about.
With regards your backround what is the biggest tournement you have won, do you play live or online? How do you know this guy.

I know its none of my business but I'm just unterested to know.

    Pokerplayer in the well anyone?

What would you do to make this work.
    Also here's some genuine advice.

Take 10k of the 40 and get coaching from the top guys on 2+2. Then play the other 30k. (while you're in Vegas as per my previous suggestion)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,323 ✭✭✭Hitchhiker's Guide to...

without more information (which you aren't giving), then if you are a reasonably poor player who got lucky with a 50k freeroll - follow bohsman's advice.

If you are a good player trying to make a return on this playing $100 tournies, then you would probably already have the necessary funds and i don't think would need 50k for a 3-month spin at $100 tournies.

/ it all sounds a bit strange at the moment

Step05, can you tell me what plan you would use. you yourself.
see,i dont think there is one right way or one wrong way to do this,
but if i get what individuals would do themselves then i can get an idea of how to approach this.

I'd get coaching from Tommy Angelo, and a few others, move to Vegas get a lovely Villa with a pool.

Grind 5/10 NL on-line while I'm getting my coaching, then play all the NLHE side events, a couple of the 1k Bellagio tournaments, some 5/10 Live NLHE.

Hoping to make enough that I have made a profit, but keeping 10k aside just incase so I can play the Main Event. Then whatever I've left play the highest games on Full Tilt leaving myself with 3 Buy-ins for the game and try spin it up to $1m.

    Easy... :D

Also, I'd probably hit Bobby's room if I had enough left at the end too...
