    .

In addition I think the games should be for a minimum buyin of $10 per game. I'm not trying to exclude people but its quite frustrating trying to organise some play money game when you have €1k in bets riding on the overall results. :( Poker is about winning money afterall.

Oh yeah and can those who decide they can play give some consideration to the fact that this is being played over the summer so if you are buggering off on holidays and won't be around for a month or more then don't sign up.

I for one can't play this year unfortunately :( but it is a great way of getting to know people on boards and it may heal some of the bad vibes that have been knocking around here for the last few months. GL with the organising Lloyd.;)

I'll sticky threads etc if needed, but probably won't play due to laziness and rubbishness at onlineness.

yeh, can't play this year either as I'm planing on taking down the main event at the WSOP and all the commercial crap will keep me busy for the year, so gl to all boardies.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,894 ✭✭✭✭phantom_lord

I think it should have a buy in, and then pay the top 3 or w/e, at least then the people that have entered will have an interest in playing their matches and meeting deadlines, and there'll a proper prize for the winnar.

It was good fun last year as was the heads up league, got to know a fair few boardsies from it. Though a well meaning sentiment I think some of the bad vibes have gone too far to go back tbh imo, but still it's a good event for a bit of unity.

I was sick I missed this last year. Definite count me in.

Healing the wounds eh? Sounds ambitious.

Suggestion: Gholi v Trippie in round one with a 3-hug buy in.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,083 ✭✭✭max_power

In. Hopefully I'll make it past the first round this year, I'd be available to give a hand organising and whatnot too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 588 ✭✭✭Lao Lao

Depending on dates and the buy in,I'd be interested in playing this, would be good to put a few more faces to the boards SN's

Also - I have a fair bit of time on my hands, should also be able to help put in some way

im here for the whole summer, except for 2 weeks holidays, so count me in.

    +1 for the prizepool idea

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,437 ✭✭✭luckylucky

Are people getting confused and thinking they actually need to be physically in ireland for this, if it's the same as last year then the majority of games are played online... otherwise i'd be fcked :)

    I'll do this again.

I actually think that people should be free to decide whatever stake they play for - it can be a freeroll, for $5 or for $5000 - but it's up to the two players in each game to decide. My only suggestion would be that everyone who enters ponies up a nominal sum to create a prizepool for the finalists. It'll also dissuade the timewasters who sign up and then fail to play (think about half the first round games were walkovers last year). A tenner sounds fair.

There's always the GJP/Boards HU League later in the year for more serious HU action. This is more about participation, slagging rights and of course, massive sidebets with BCB...

And yes, the communal good feeling stuff was at the back of my mind too. Closet hippie that I am!

Does $25 sound like a reasonable entry fee to people? Then as said before, play the matches for whatever stake is agreed. So say we get 32 entries, thats a prize pool of $800, plus whatever you pick up along the way. Even for people playing low stakes, like myself, i'd imagine it's manageable. Maybe throw up a poll?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,267 ✭✭✭DubTony

Wow, where did that year go? It doesn't seem like 12 months since Macspower owned me. :o I'll try this again. See if I can do better this time. If you can rig it, I'd like to play against a fellow fish please. ;) Thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,709 ✭✭✭YULETIRED

what are the wounds and bad vibes people keep talking about, 'tis only the internet....If there is anyone out there i have persoally offended, i hereby apologise and to prove I mean what i say, there is a free banana milk shake on me when next we meet, one shake per chimp though as I'm not exactly rich .

Now is there a live HU league anywhere, Id really like to play in that if there were.

it's not that hard, just a small bit of draw rigging and sending nagging PMs is all

I know, I did it the year before last, so I think we're both excused this year.

    Okay, I'm gonna do it.

Before I post up the main thread looking for entrants, can we decide in this thread regarding a nominal entry fee, and how it should work.

Personally I'd prefer payments into Paypal, if we are to use an entry fee.

And keep the fee relatively low.

    €5-€10

Perhaps add a poll to this thread?

€10 absolute max to enter imo, this is one tournie that isn't about the money - we want to encourage as many entrants as possible

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,461 ✭✭✭RedJoker

I'm in provided it's not starting until June.

Can't transfer on Paypal but hopefully somebody will be able to accept poker site transfers and send it on to you.

poker site transfers are probably best in general (GJP/Stars etc)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,441 ✭✭✭Killme00

    I will play pls.

A nominal amount like $10 would be a good entrance fee. Its about the title after all!!!

I cant use paypal. Like RJ said just about everyone here has Stars/FT accounts so that would be best way to ship imo.

    But im in anyway

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,691 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

So the general feeling is that a nominal $10 charge is fairest, yeah? It will also mean people will be interested in playing and less walkovers.

As for transfers, I guess site to site transfers make most sense

El S - How long was the period for people to play their respective matches last year?

I think I was pretty generous with it - about 3 weeks for the first couple of rounds and 2 weeks afterwards (warning: people will leave things to the last minute!)

it went on for a few months anyway

Quick questions as I wasn't in the last one

it's up to the the two players in each match to decide, obv. most were played online.

ollyk was a finalist and I think he played all his games live

Yeah best of 3 games knockout.

Can be played anywhere but online is obviously the handiest.

Okay lads I've posted up the main thread. Get your names in etc.

If we can keep this thread for questions/suggestions, then that would be wonderful

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,691 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

I've had a couple of Internet poker companies expressing an interest in sponsoring the HU event. Offering 100% prizepool match etc. I imagine this would mean they would like participants to use their software for the matches.

My own thoughts are the competition is more about prestige and bragging rights etc, rather than a big prize. Also that more people can participate if the choices on where/how to play are left up to the individuals in question.

However I'd like to get peoples thoughts on this before I get back to any of the companies...

I'd suggest that some of the companies might be able to put up a reasonable offer that would get unanymous acceptance from "the board". In which case - go for it IMHO.

If for example a company wanted to do something in return for calling the competition "The boards annual HU tournament - sponsored by XXX" but not place any restrictions on the games or format and let boards do it's thing as boards does well, I'm sure they would get good exposure on the forum for the duration of the competition.

Edit to say what I meant to say:

    Otherwise I'd suggest not accepting.

seeing as quite a few people prefer to play live, I don't think we should go for this option. GJP already help out with the League

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,881 ✭✭✭bohsman

Once it doesnt affect where people play it sounds good. As for the league comment, I was just trying to give Flushdraw nightmares.
