Specialized stockists in Dublin?

    Hey Guys,

I'm thinking of trading in my Giant roadie for a combination of a specialized allez and sirrus. I'm pretty tired of cycling my racer to college all the time, and I would prefer a bike that is a little more suited to my short commute.

Basically I was looking around and can't find much mention of Specialized stockists but I've seen a fair few people with them so they must be falling off a truck somewhere. I want to steer clear of cycleways and cycleogical if at all possible, I have yet to deal with them but from what I have read here it is not worth the hassle.

Do bike shops tend to do deals if you go in and buy 2 bikes at once? Like buy one get one free?? :D

Cycleways would be the main Specialized stockists, I don't think Cycleogical do Specialized at all. There's a shop up the North. McConvey Cycles I think it's called, they do Specialized too.

You should get something off if buying two bikes at the same time. Note that I don't think many shops do trade-ins.

Oh yeah, sorry I should have mentioned I used "trade-in" there as a turn of phrase. I'll probably just use adverts.

I've been told good things about Joe Daly cycles in Dundrum, they don't happen to sell them do they?

P.S. I have also managed to post this under my brother's account, so don't be alarmed if you see a bike for sale under DirkVoodoo.

Joe Daly don't sell Specialized. According to the website Stagg Cycles and Hollingsworth Cycles are also authorised Specialized dealers, so you could try there.

they do, but it's not what i would call a 'bikeshop', i.e. i don't think they've a workshop for servicing and i doubt there'd be much use haggling for a deal. it feels more like a showroom than a bikeshop and when i was in there yesterday the staff looked at me like a wierdo when i asked if they sold cycling shorts. salesgirl: "what, the tight ones?" me: "yes." salesgirl "ah, no." and made a face like i'd just asked her if they sold strap-ons.

stagg cycles in lucan are a specialized dealer too. they're nice folks who might do you a deal.

Hey niceonetom,i believe Specilized have just brought out a new range of strap ons, only available in the low countries at the moment, testing them out on the cobbled sections.

P992- I would question spending all that money on two new bikes; think about what you want and there may be better options. Is there something wrong with your Giant that you want to trade it in for an Allez? What is it you don't like about cycling it into college- the riding position, lack of luggage carrying ability, fear of it being nicked?

Any specialized bike you buy in the south will be linked to cycleways as they are the importer and distributor through there BASE.ie company and you will get a better deal in the north as the shops have a bigger margin than us dealers in the south.

Hi all,i have no shares in Cycleways, but bought a Specialized there last year.My experience has only been positive.Firstly its worth doing a bit of research and know what you want(thats why boards is a great resource),i would go in,if you hav'nt already and speak to Francis or Eoin, they really know their stuff, are very keen cyclists, not just salesmen, ask the questions, keep asking them until your satisfied, consumers here are like f****g sheep,i've been back several times for advice and servicing, all positive and efficient.I know this sounds like a sales pitch for them, its not.

Hey blorg, sorry that was me posting this thread. You pretty much hit all the proverbial nails on the head there. I'm 5'10" and when I bought my bike they gave me a large frame which I always felt was a tad too big for me. I've adjusted it every-which-way and am now at a more comfortable position, but I just did a cycle of Howth there today and my back was pretty sore because I am basically over-stretching my arms to reach the drops as my arms are simply not long enough. Couple this with the fact that I got a pair of clipless pedals recently and I find it a bit awkward to carry/leave shoes in college.

So I really want a hybrid for my day to day cycling, something nice and comfortable without compromising too much on a bit of pace. Then a nice racer that I can keep in perfect order, free from the wear and tear of commuting (although the Giant is remarkably durable in this respect, but still a bit rough for some roads).

I'm after the bike equivalent of a ford mondeo for my commute and a 1967 Austin Healy 3000 for my weekend posing :)
