I'm sorry I have to agree (to a point) with the Rigger

Having spent 3 of the worst years of my life in a prominent rugby school, I developed a hatred for schools rugby. However, this hatred ends with international rugby. I love watching Ireland play well.

Brethren, what is truly wrong with the disliking of something which requires so much energy, and time which could be spent imbibing?

I agree. We should reserve our energy for lifting pint glasses to drink beer and walking to the (nearest) pub. :)

Ah ... I see where yore going with this. Thing is, The_Rigger doesn't have to play rugby, which is somewhat energetic (although that's not how I play it).

What he can't do is impugn this fine sport which so many Brothers enjoy watching while they're imbibing.

It's essentially a spectator sport, and watching great big lardy sweaty props demolish younger, slimmer and fitter men is good for the soul. It's cathartic.

Before you know it, The_Rigger will be disrespecting Sumo ... which may be bannable

Its takes no energy to dislike anything when its done right

It takes a lot more energy to like something.

For example I dislike hundreds of thousands of people doesn't affect me!
I like a few people and effort is required!

I was crossing Ireland to Scotland on the boat with a load of rugger buggers(and where might that particular nickname come from:confused:) and their picnics were most definitely not very BG&RH; not a rasher in sight, it was all camembert, oatcakes, grapes and discussions on the quality of the claret.
De Rigueur has a point, so he does.

    I effing hate rugger.

    Detest it, in fact.

Simply, I wasn't brought up with it.

I don't understand it, and I have no care to.

When I was about 12 or so, I tried watching a few games, but all they did was kick the ball into touch. Which made for a very boring afternoon tbh.

Tried watching again, but it was the same.

Kick to touch. Kick to touch.

    Blah blah blah.

I do enjoy Rugby League, Aussie Rules and Soccer.

I hate Rugby Union, and fooking Gaelic Football.

I suppose like a few sports, playing it makes you appreciate some of the skill in it. I know what you mean about kicking to touch, it can get very tedious. You should watch France versus New Zealand '99 to see how it can be played.

Meh, I'll leave it tbh. I'm 28 years of age. Way too old to be jumping on any bandwagons. No, people know me, people know I hate rugby.

That's the way it wil stay.

I have enough soccer to be watching anyway, between Shels, Boardeaux and whatever else Sky/Setanta are showing.

TBH, watching great big lardy sweaty guys having group hugs and pile-ups is pretty ghey imo.

Then anytime the ball happens to break free, the main aim is to kick it right-the-fúck out of play and get back to big lardy sweaty group hugs and pile-ups.

    Rugby is:

    A: Teh ghey
    B: An awful game

    That is all.
Before you know it, The_Rigger will be disrespecting Sumo ... which may be bannable

Well sumo is pretty ghey, Sumo wrestlers appetites and lifestyles are commendable.
But why can't they just be big fat guys who eat whatever they want without the ghey greased up energy-expending Sumo wrestling bit?

Wrestling is incredibly ghey - more sweaty lardy hugging and pile-ups tbh.
    No thanks.

Actually, point of order there Brother Rigger. Rikishi (Sumo wrestlers to me and you) do not in fact get greased up, and they keep energy expenditure to an absolute minimum. Before a bout they pace around the dohyo (ring) eyeballing each other and throwing fistfulls of salt onto the floor, all pretty sedate so far. Then when the bout commences it is unlikely to last more than a few seconds, demonstrating an admirable enthusiasm for energy concersation. On top of all that, each or the six grand tournaments held each year lasts 15 days, with each man fighting only once per day. So even assuming that all his bouts for the year last 30 seconds each, the annual workload for a rikishi is 45 minutes, for which they get well paid and receive extra in sponsorship and bonuses, as well as shed loads of food and booze. Plus the Japanese wimmins love them. The lifestyle of a Sumo wrestler is one that Brothers should aspire to, not denigrate.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,243 ✭✭✭✭Jesus Wept

True, they don't seem to hug or have pile ups, they just shove each other.
It's strange that it's called wrestling - it's not akin to wrestling at all.

Sumo Shoving/Sumo Shovers are alright by me.
It gets the offical Non-Ghey Rigger seal of approval™.

Now I have to agree with you on that one!

Eurosport used to have it on all the time a few years ago and I used to watch loads of it. I really got into it and missed it when NTL got rid of the channel.

War har har! Just curious (not in that way) is all.

Everybody watch a game of rugby then watch soccer, and I would bet a large sum of money that the soccer bores you to tears. I'll watch soccer, but cannot sit through the mind numbingness of it after rugby. Ten minutes of keep ball, with nothing happening, ugh........ and the damn ball is out of play for a ridiculous amount of the average game. Also the majority of players in the modern game are whingy premadona bitches who are more interested in their hair than cleaning some guy out of it with a good tackle.
    One word: lame!
