One of my chrome bumpers is beginning to flake, just a small area nothing major yet, but i know it will only get worse - anyone got any solutions to keep it from getting worse???

My chrome bumpers are starting to get a little pitted with rust spots and some suggest steel wool - but I reckon that just exposes more potentially rusty metal.

I've heard that some people use a lacquer over the chrome to seal it, but I still have to find a suitable product out there...

    WD 40

A coat of it on the chrome work every now and again will keep it looking a bit dull, but will help prevent pitting. WD 40 is great for classics:

If it moves and it shouldn't: Duct tape
If it should move and doesn't: WD 40
If neither work: Use a hammer

Found this while wandering the internet highway...

    http://www.axminster.co.uk/product-Rustins-Rustins-Metal-Lacquer-22698.htm

I'm going to try it on one piece of my bumper to see if it stops the blisters rusting...

I use MAAS chrome cleaning/protection products on my chrome peices on my Mini - and I have lost of Chrome, I find the stuff great, its a bit pricey but it works! Just google it to find the website!!

What car is the bumper on? Had it been replaced at any stage? There is a lot of dirt reproduction stuff about, so be carefull if you decide to replace it.

Am at the other end of the spectrum, rear bumper chrome is down to about 20% coverage, has been flaking for many years and WD40 has done all it can do, {this should be honoured/recognised/doctorship,referred to as Dr. WD~40 maybe as has so many successful uses} & trying to get rechromed is same as attempting to win the lotto. All I have tried, just suggest buying/sourcing a new part, it's crazy that within the whole island there is not some place to drive to, leave off & collect a bumper/rim/wingmirror etc.:(
