    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/7369851.stm

    Extracts.........
A 73-year-old Austrian is under arrest on suspicion of hiding his
daughter in a cellar for 24 years and fathering seven children with
    her, police say.
The existence of the woman, believed missing since 1984 and now 42,
emerged after a teenager said to be her daughter was taken to hospital.

One of the children the man allegedly fathered died in infancy, police
    believe.

Three children, including the 19-year-old who was taken to hospital, were
allegedly kept in the cellar with their mother while the other three
reportedly grew up with their grandparents.

The six children are three boys and three girls aged between five and 20.

"They are being cared for individually - those between 12 and 16 years of
age who grew up with their grandparents, and two boys who, when they
came out yesterday with their mother, saw the daylight for the first
time in their lives," he said.

She said she had been sexually abused by her father since the age of 11.

Josef allegedly lured her into the cellar of their house in Amstetten on 28
August 1984, drugging and handcuffing her before locking her up.

Abused continuously during the 24-year-long imprisonment",
Elisabeth bore six children while a seventh, one of a set of twins, died soon after birth.

The dead baby was allegedly taken out of the cellar and burnt by Josef.

His wife Rosemarie had allegedly not been aware of what was going on.:eek::eek:
I'm speechless tbh. What a nightmare for that poor woman and her kids.

Saw it on the news earlier, disturbing stuff

the other three reportedly grew up with their grandparents.

Em... would the grandparents not have been like 'So, where the fuck did these 3 kids come from?'

Holy Crap that sounds horrific

How could his wife not know what's going on?

    a) Her daughter would have been missing since 1984.
    b) In 24 years had she no reason whatsoever to go into the cellar?! (presumabely it's in their home, correct me if I'm wrong...)
    c) Her parents, or her in-laws, all of a sudden have these 3 new kids. Questions to be asked there maybe?

There's got to be some more secrets.

Anyways, what an antichrist. I couldn't conjure up something like that in a nightmare. And he burnt the baby?! I have no words at all for that.

Bloody hell..... I can't even imagine how torturous that would be. What a waste of lives. I guess be glad that she can start trying to piece her life back together now, with her kids.

She only agreed to speak with the authorities if they made sure she would never see her father again, and her children be taken into care.

I would say her head is fried.

But what good is that to her that the man was caught at the age of 73??! There must be fcuk all life left in him. Nice slow painful death ftw.

i saw this on the news earlier. it is disturbing to think how some peoples minds work. who could do this to their own child. how someone could be so evil to someone they brought into this world is beyond me. a father is supposed to protect his child from animals like this, not subject them to that kind of torture. i have a child and if someone did something like this i would have no qualms about taking the matter into my own hands. the authorities could have what ever was left of him after i was finsihed with him.

this bast*rd better be locked up for the remainder of his life, none of this letting him out of prison early so he can spend his final years a free man crap.

Yeah.... if I'm stuck in/around my house for a week, even with the internet and computer, I get pretty bored and go a bit mental. I couldn't even contemplate what it would be like to be stuck in a CELLAR, with NO SUNLIGHT (forget about boards!), and being regularly abused.

I'd probably just kill myself in those circumstances

    Surprising she didn't kill herself.

Completely mental and unfathomable. I know its unlikely but I hope she recovers to some extent at least.

What is it with Austria? First that young girl in the basement and now this. The fact this woman wrote a letter and hid it on her daughter who the man was bringing to hospital shows she still had some life left in her. Why was the man sending his child/grandchild to hospital if he was so screwed up? That almost smacks of a caring streak.

The grandparents were told the kids were the children of the "missing" girl, but that they had been left outside the parents house with notes saying she could not look after them herself.

Maybe kinder to put her out of her misery or to start the therapy by letting her beat the shíte out of her tormentor with a crow bar.

After the other case where the girl was locked up for 14 years, it got me thinking if it was possible that somewhere else in the world somewhere somebody was gonig through the exact same thing, but then I shrugged it off and figured it was impossible....now this comes out and I'm like "wtf???". Just hope this is the last...

Doubt it... There's over 6 billion people in the world. Lots of potential psychopaths. I would hazard a guess that there is at least 5 people going through this same torture right now. That woman and her kids have been going through it for the past 24 years!

This is the most disturbing thing I've ever heard of. It's just wrong on so many levels. And it's impossible to find a punishment that fits the crimes. :(

My da was telling me about hearing about this on the news on the way to the DART this morning and I couldn't believe reading about it. Just insane stuff altogether. This is the kind of bastard you'd like to see jumping out of a plane and his parachute not opening.... absolutely sick. She could never make a recovery from this and I presume all the kids will have serious health issues...

    Any pictures of this kunt?

The world was always crazy. It never "started with serial killers". If anything, the world has got more "civilised" making crimes like this all the more dumbfounding.

    +1

Also, with the internet and international media forever expanding, we get to hear about a hell of a lot more weird stuff now than people did 20 years ago.

What is it with Austria? First that young girl in the basement and now this.

Not forgetting that Hitler fella. He was mad Ted, mad altogether! (and from an inbred background)

tbh alot of odd news stories come out of this region of the world. This case. The imprisoned girl. That guy who murdered and ate a willing participant he met online. Vaguely recall a pair of goths who commited a few murders and all. Neo Nazism is big over there. Some even hero worship Johnny ****ing Adair. Zee Germans/Austrians are an odd bunch quite frankly (obviously not all of them, but I can think of at least six that I have known personally).

Let me get this straight. The grandparents (the rapist and the wife) raised 3 of the kids. The wife was....now....let me be certain....she was under the impression that her missing daughter got pregnant on three seperate occasions and abandoned the kid each time on their doorstep?

To start school, the kids needed a birth cert. The only way these births could be officially recorded would be if the grandparents registered their births.

Now, surely if they went to the town hall three times to claim their missing daughter had abandoned 3 kids on their doorstep, someone should have realised?

Poxy fcuking journalists are presenting this like a pre prepared template, arent explaining one bit of it.

Still, it must be mad to describe everything that has happened to someone who has been cut off for 24 years

"Well. While you were out, the Berlin Wall came down, the twin towers are gone, communism is on its arse, most of Eastern Europe is in the EU, two lads called George Bush have run America, and those spud aytin leprachans on the western edge of Europe have one of Europes strongest economies, I sh1t you not...."

In the first few hours a rather cnuty prankster could have acquired an army costume and sewed a small USSR flag into it I guess, and proclaimed that she had survived the nuke war in which the Russkies won.

How did he sneak all the stuff into the gaf anyway? lookin at the paper, there was ~6 beds! did his missus not ask him like "hey where ya goin with those beds?" or "hey, remember that bathroom we got fitted into the basement there last month....".
We were sayin this in work too about the food! how could he manage to sneak 6 dniners downstairs every nite without anyone knowin! on top of that, surely the ma woulda known that they had a basement twice as big when they moved in, then all of a sudden, it halved in size, their new bathroom went missing, along with loadsa food, and random packets of nappies showin up on the shoppin bill!!

People like that guy should be shot, and then shot again just to be sure. Thats one of the worst stories I have ever read.

She must have known. There's no way she couldn't have.

The sad thing is he's only facing a 15 year sentence. They consider the rapes to be the most serious of the crimes and it's 15 years max for that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,893 ✭✭✭The_B_Man

well hes 73. in 15 years he'll most likely be dead anyway.

Another thing is, if you've seen the basement layout in the paper, its obvious he must have planned it a long time in advance. It wasnt something he accidentally fell into and then got too deep to get out of. Its plain to see it was premeditated and jsut nasty!! especially with the burning of the baby!!

Not necessarily. In 15 years he'll be 88 and plenty of people live to be over 100 these days. There should be no question of him not dying in prison. Not to mention what happens if a younger person decides to do similar in the future. Should they get out in 10 years or whatever? "Ah sure, it's only a kidnapping offence". At least it's not Irish law I suppose.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 442 ✭✭Papillon87

    Absolutely depraved.

But absolutely the wife knew. How were 7 children delivered in her basement without her knowing? How did she never hear the crying of seven babies? How were serious questions not raised by authorities and neighbours when random babies were being dropped on their doorstep? If a child appears outside your door, you contact the police first and foremost.

The wife knowingly let this go on for 24 years. That is equally as disgusting.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,220 ✭✭✭✭Loopy

How anyone could do that to their own child is just unbelievable, I too reckon the mother must have known, or else she's a complete thick.

    Papillon87 wrote: »

One tend to ask the same question but remember that they lived on the top floor, there were two apartments below them and the basement was underground. The guy (hard not to drop into swearing so I'll just say "guy") had all the walls lined with rubber sheets.
What's worse is that this guy started building the basement, presumably with this in mind, in 1978!

I'd sentence him to public hanging and then wouldn't carry it out (not that you'd be allowed anyway). Let him live the rest of his life in jail wondering what the morning would bring...

Isn't that what they do in America :p

The question I have regarding the mother is: Did she ever report her daughter as missing? They also said 3 of the kids were staying with the grandparents. Did anyone ever question where those kids came from?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 721 ✭✭✭stakey

That's depraved. Considering this guy was getting on in his years, his daughter and her children would've been in danger of wasting away down there had he croaked it! He shouldn't have the chance of living on any further unless it's in a 4ft x 4ft room with a 6ft high roof and a hole in the gound...

How come she didn't die of things like rickets and infections from giving birth unaided, etc?
