    Hi All,

I'm going to be hitting the big 40 in 11 months and counting and for the past few years have always said I'd treat myself to a really good watch for my 40th.

Currently I'm just doing research and going to jewellars and looking at as many watches as I can . I'm also checking various websites etc to see what I like the look of.

To date it's the Breitling Airwolf that has caught my imagination . But I'm open to suggestions ...

I do have a few months to go but any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Try second-hand and antique shops. I got a fab solid silver watch in an antique shop for a significant b-day. I tried different jewellers but I observed the stock was the same in all shops. I got a unique watch.

have a look at www.watchfinder.co.uk even if you don't end up buying off them, they have some nice hi-res shots which i find difficult to find on the web of most good watches.

The price difference between watches in Ireland and the USA is massive.
I recently saved over €1k on a watch by shopping in the USA as opposed to
Dublin. You might get yourself a real bargain weekend holiday in NY and the
watch for the same price as just the watch here. You can check the watch
manufacturers websites and get a list of authorised agents and call them
    for pricing before you leave.

Yeah, a shopping trip would be good to celebrate your birthday, and get some retail therapy in, especially with the value of the euro at the moment.

Also, you could try eBay. My brother and sister got me a watch there for my 21st, an Armani, and I love it. I've seen the same one here in jewellers for a lot more than they spent on it. As long as you make sure the seller/shop is genuine etc, you could get a good bargain. No harm having a browse there anyway, even if you don't buy, you might get more ideas as to what you actually want. Enjoy!

weirs are hugely expensive, i came out with a 100 euro saving when i bought my omega seamaster over in america, i bought the tickets and all and was 100cheaper than weirs.

Yeah, fakes are a possibility, but as I said, it's worth looking at for ideas if not actual purchase.:)

Nice watch - it's in the possible pile

I'll definately be avoiding the web for this purchase . The trip to the States does sound nice !

I did mail breitling.com to see if they had any accredited online stores and the answer back wasa definate NO from them.

The Tag Heuer watches are two-thirds of the price if you buy in the USA,
if it's EUR 2,500 here it'll cost you USD 2,500 in the USA. You can also
save similar money if you buy in Dubai, the Caribbean and parts of Asia.
Again, just check the manufacturers website and phone ahead to a jeweller
that's an authorised agent - and as already mentioned there are no online
shops that are authorised agents for the major watch manufacturers.

Forget buying in Dublin or Ireland, have a holiday somewhere and pick up
the watch. The warranty on the Tags for example are global.
