The picture quality is still very good on a standard TV.

I wouldn't let my TV ,stop me getting a ps3.

The biggest improvement with HD ,is you've got a clearer picture on a bigger screen.

The bigger the screen the better HD will look on it.
It's like comparing wool with silk.

Or you clan play it in HD on your PC monitor provided you have HDCP support.

Playstation still looks really good on a normal TV. I didnt have HD at first.

But once you do get one you'll wonder how you could play without it :D

    OP,

IMO Blu-Ray will look horrible, nearly worse than DVD on SDTV, non HDTV.

You can't use RGB scart cable as Macrovision (Green Screen) protection so terrible, in the box composite cables will work only.
This is a shockingly bad way to watch Blu-Rays or DVDs.

Gaming on PS3 with SDTV is just about bearable, watching Blu-Rays terrible.

Both 360 and PS3 were built with HDTV in mind, especially PS3.

Unless you have very recent PC monitor, PS3 will not work with it.

"Gaming on PS3 with SDTV is just about bearable, watching Blu-Rays terrible"

Just ignore this. If the guy doesnt even know if he needs a hdtv to watch blu ray or how it would look, he is clearly no expert - therefore very unlikely to care whether or not the image is sharp/vivid etc. Don't tell him it will barely be bearable when you know that is not going to be the case.

I used my ps3 on a standard tube tv first. I was impressed with the quality.

thanx lads and lassies i had a 360 before ans the graphics were excelent, ive played it on a hdtv [fifa] and it was amazing a fair bit better, its just the ps 3 is on a diferent format ie bluray, i was just wondering was there a big diference, its not going to sway me getting one ,i just couldnt wait for the ps 3 thats why i made the mistake of getting an x box 360, i know some posters swear by them ,im just a ps guy and cant really take to the 360 so i sold it and stuck a few quid for a ps 3.which im getting tomorrow.yippeee

You'll need a HDTV to view content in HD :D

SD will for games and movies. They'll look better, noticably better than last generation games but when you go to HD, you'll be thinking holy fook, this is amazing. You just see a lot more detail with a HDTV. That's the benefit and if you don't have it, you'll miss out on it.

I started out on an SDTV and was like, why would I need a HDTV until I played it on one in the Xbox Live Gaming Centre (not even particularly good TV's, probably good when they came out), then I had to have HDTV so I got a HDTV and am so happy now.

Have Bluray now too for watching movies and they look better than standard DVDs but I think the 360's upscaling on DVD's and more importantly the better connection over Scart (VGA) makes DVD's look just as good on a small enough TV (32").

Am I the only one being confused by the op, one moment he's calling the 360 terrible yet gives no reasons why, then he says Fifa looks amazing on it ?
Bluray vs HD has no bearing on how your games are going to look.

the reason im calling the 360 terrible is as i said in previous posts, mine packed up a month after the warrenty was up,i was one of the first to get one ,they only came with a 12 mth warrenty then, the game play is cool dont get me wrong, it the constant bad customer relations and constant hand over fist money micro soft try to extort out of us thats why im dissing the 360 mate.

fairynuff, can't argue with that. the xbox forum is riddled with broken 360 stories of woe.

as for the telly thing, I was thinking of getting a HDTV before the PS3 came out but when it came down to it and I only had the money for one at the time, I figured I could play the PS3 on a SDTV, but couldn't play PS3 games on a HDTV with no PS3. That kinda made my mind up for me. :)

As for quality, you won't see any difference between blu-ray and dvd's, but they'll play okay.

lets face it, if you have to ask, you're not going to know any different anyway (no offense).

One thing I will say is that I got a 40" LCD and it was like getting a new console all over again too, the difference in definition between gaming and Blu-ray'ing in SD and HD on the PS3 was astounding.
