Should one decide to run a poker tournie for example at a race course would it be possible to do so?eg rent a tent out also is it possible to have a memebers club which moves venue?

You'll have no problem running a tourney at a race course, what's the difference between that and a GAA hall or pub? Afaik cash games are the only grey area.

Not sure about your second question, but a 'members only' club that moves venue seems a little bizarre, why do you ask?

One of my friends was wondering is it legal as he was thinking about maybe going around to a few different big horse racing events hiring out a tent possibly in the corporate area and setting up a few sit n go's or cash games during the duration of the event. As you would get some decent games going.Of course whether the course wud want something like that i dont know.
The members club question was in relation to if he wanted to have a blackjack table or something along them lines,i presuming its a non runner though unless ur let have a private members no harm in asking!(Cheers for the reply i know he will have to look into alot off legal issues!)

I doubt it would be permitted until legislation is sorted out.

Most racecourses come under management of Horse Rcaing Ireland which is a government funded body.

It is down to the discretion of racecourse management. They will listen to you particularly if the ownership of the racecourse is a shareholding.

pretty sure some clubs already do this, like Big Slick and Pokerevents and the Merrion, when they run events outside their "home" venue.

as for the first part of the question I don't think you're meant to ask boards for legal advice but unless there's something specific in the legislation covering racecourses, I'd say you have a good shot.

He will need the members part of it for poker aswell. Of course its all a very grey area and Ive spoken to a few different poker organisers, all have told me fairly different legal advice they were given.

How does one go about setting up a registered members club? i understand why u need one for one but is it just a case as everyone registering so thats its a private club or do u need to first register with some organisation eg the government?
