Anyone know an "old school" diesel mechanic in NW?

As some might know, I've got a VW Transporter with the 1.6 TD

It's running perfect at the moment, so no rush.

but ...this thing has purely mechanical valves (no hydros) and a mechanical fuel pump/injector that would profit from the occasional check/adjustment.

I'm a bit waery of doing this myself, all I have is theoretical knowledge and limited tools and all the mechanics I've asked so far don't really want to do it either.

The fuel pump and injector(s?) would have to go to a specialist - Engine Remanufacturing in Castlebar, 094 9022644, should be able to accomodate you.

If the fuel pump was run off the timing belt, this would have to be renewed as well, upon reinstallation of the pump.

If it's a mechanical valve assembly, any decent mech with a feeler gauge should be able to check it for you!

Yeah ...I got that far (I could even do that bit myself) ...the trouble would start once the gaps are found to be wrong. Still looking for that mechanic who would actually take the old shims out and put the new ones in, if necessary.
Plus one who knows how to adjust pump timing (preferably from experience and not from a manual, like me :D)

Stalk out your local bus eireann garage - one of the mechs, they might be able to sort you out. (I'm into cars, never really knew and commercial or diesel specialists)

If it's all good, don't worry about it now - I'd say the shims are still original in your camper and if it's treated right, they should stay the same. Regarding the injector pump, don't go messing about if the emissions are within spec or if it's running ok - have it checked the next time it's due it's timing belt.
