Anyone have any idea's for the following, it's got me really spooked. This is just after happening at 3:10am this morning. My dog sleeps in the kitchen at night and he started barking again at nothing.
This has happened a few times now, always between 3 - 4am, whats strange is he just stays in the one spot barking at the wall or corner and it's always the same wall and corner everytime. If I put my hand or walk in front of him he will either move his head or go round me to get a fix on what ever he is barking at and start up again, there's no distracting him from it. I was down with him one morning and he was barking away at the corner for a good 5 minutes and then just stopped. What ever he's looking at is about 5ft 1/2 - 6ft up.

The first few times I put it down to nothing but it's becoming a regular thing and now earlier has really spooked me. He was at it again, so I went down to see what was up, I opened the kitchen door and before I got to switch the light on I saw in the corner what I can only describe as a pair of blue misty balls of light (around size of a golf ball) just floating about my height 5ft9 in the air in the corner, they looked like eyes  .
I went for the light switch and when I switched the light on they went and the dog stop barking at the corner. I went out back with the dog just after it happened to make sure no one was round the house and nothing there, dog was quiet too.

I turned the light back off and stayed in the room for the last 20 minutes to see if I could see them again and make sure I wasn't just seeing things but nothing. I've a good blind in the kitchen that no light gets through, window was shut and there's no draft so it wasn't a light source from outside.
My dog is a good guard dog, anyone round that shouldn't be round he will bark. It's got me totally baffled, really wish I didn't see what I just have cause it has spooked me out.

Animals sense things we don't as their 'filter systems' aren't as 'efficient' as ours. That's why your dog saw your visitor before you did.
If you're getting a bad vibe from your visitor tell it politely but firmly to go.You might explain to it that it's upsetting your dog which is in its turn disturbing your sleep.
Most visitors are amenable and this should sort it.If not then visualisation techniques can protect your house (and you) quite effectively.
Picture a bubble around your house (I go for a gold one but I think the colour is up to the individual) before you go to bed that nothing bad can penetrate. This is useful for preventing burglaries when you go on holiday too!

Dogs can sense and hear things from a distance that we cannot, and maybe he is just hearing or sensing some sort of natural disturance, but that wouldn't explain what you saw. I am sure some here will be able to give you a more logical explanation to all of this and I am sure you would be greatful for it. I wouldn't worry to much, and if it is upsetting you and your dog in this manner you can take different approaches

    1. leave a small lamp on in the kitchen and see if that stops the dog from barking as I find it a bit starange that when you turned the light on everything stopped, it maybe that it clamed the situation down and stopped what ever the light source was from projecting itself, because if spirit is there it will be there regardless of light on or off and the dog would probally keep barking.

    2. You could also do as the other poster sugguested and just mentally say "I am not happy with you here now please leave".

    3. Try a few experienments and see if you can source the light. That probally should be no 1 but hey its two early to debate lol.

Let us know how you get on.
