great guy from tallaght called MC Bus Fair.

imo he's one of the most important rap artists to come from these shores in a long time, essential, poetic and wonderfully poignant in his rhymes. he captures the frustration of what is to be an majority ethnic group with free access to education, while having the ability to work and live in almost 30 other counties, you have all the advantages... but you know, f**k it, why would 'ya bother. Better still to hang out at shops and abuse those who are trying hard to live in an already benign and unforgiving universe, and like, the police keep busting you, for simply breaking laws, bloody nazi's they are!. The youth of Ireland have found a fresh voice to articulate their woes.

I don't listen to a huge amount of Irish rap but out of the stuff I have heard I'd say Rob Kelly is the best. He has a few songs up on youtube and he's great with the one liners and puns: "I'm like a farmer- outstanding in my own field!"

    Messiah J is sh!t.

I'd have to say Ri-Ra but Captain Moonlight (he of 'Dirty c*nts' infamy) is given him a run for his money.
The Infomatics are top notch too.

    rawsoul deserves a mention

Is captian moonlight really a rapper though?
Can you really call that hiphop, I don't think so.

Yep, Rawsoul deserves a mention alright as does Terawritz!

I've not listened to a huge amount of Irish hip-hop but so far for me Redzer's Dublife album is one of the best albums I've heard in a long time. I don't mean best Irish hip-hop album, I mean best album fullstop. The man has some special talent! Looking forward to Dublife II man! ;)

Nu-centz has some excellent stuff out too. I've only heard a few other tracks by Irish artists. I've liked the little I've heard of Ay-cee's stuff. There's some female Dub rapper I heard on Soundlick a long time ago and her stuff was great... d'ya think I can remember her name? No! :(:(

 from the compton side of ireland?
You need to find a place where you can sound natural and differant, and true to yourself. Plenty of Mc's round Eire are sounding ridiculous American.

So how could he improve? A bit of constructive criticism wouldn't go astray!

Personally, I've only seen the video linked and I agree that the American accent needs to go or at least be toned down, that'll be hard because it's been developed over time and is his style. You can hear the Irish accent in there.

There's elements of this tune that I like but the song lacks overall impact. It's a new year and we hear that it's going to be better but we hear that over and over but not much else. It's supposed to be a song about hope that next year will be better but there's no exploration of what made 2007 good or bad and HOW 2008 will be better, just a lot of guff about ripping up tracks rocking the mike, like all other rappers do.

Here's the deal with rap, it's just poetry with a beat. Okay it's 'urban' poetry but it's poetry all the same. Poetry requires a bit more than a few lines repeated over and over, rhyme and metre (rhythm) aren't enough. There is potential there, just add a bit more meat to the bones by replacing a few of the lines with some that tell us a bit more about you and what you'll be feeling. A bit more passion is needed. Eminem has buckets of it, mostly anger but it's there. In Lose Yourself there was anger, frustration and desperation to change things, that, along with Eminems rapping style, made it great.

I'd like to hear more tunes!

Believe me it is better then this. Im not rapping about poverty either btw i say it the way it is. i keep it real cause im not gonna rap about gettin shot and gettin high etc.. ya know?? so i will release another one soon. peace out

so much **** talk in this thread its ridiculous

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,947 ✭✭✭BLITZ_Molloy

You're doing quite alot of things wrong there Gman so declaring yourself the best in Ireland is only making you sound more ridiculous.

Most of the Irish rappers started out rhyming American but they switched as they got better. You might as well switch now and save yourself the trouble later. The only people who still rap American in Ireland are the worst ones. Determine from that what you will.

Raps meant to be about your own voice and experience, so pretending your from another city, nevermind another country is a baaad idea. What words rhyme is determined by your accent so your writing will change and improve with it.

Your timing in that track is off on many of the lines, the punches aren't landing in the same place in each bar. The rhythms aren't matching from one line to the next.

You need to go off and listen to a load of different types of hip hop, and some Irish hip hop and try and sharpen up the writing/delivery. It takes a ton of practice.

Post the tracks on the Irishhiphop.com audio section if you want constructive feedback. Accept you're a beginner, take the advice you're offered and you'll improve.

All of class A's, Siyo, Collie (or is he in class a'z, I dunno), Rob Kelly, RíRá/Scary Éire, Captain Moonlight,
Messiah J and the Expert and Nugget are good music wise.

With lots of others with a or some good tracks, but these all have an overall solid group of songs or albums.
