It's hard to say right now where the best deal is, since deals will probably be refreshed once GTAIV is out on Tuesday.

Your best bet would be to go to a shopping centre from Tuesday and go to all the stores there since they're in close proximity, and see who has the best offer. Either that or wait for other people to report back :)

That's a ripoff. In England it's £309 convert that to Euros and it's €391. The most expensive GTAIV bundle I've seen was still only £315.

    Avoid Game.

is it possible to import from the UK then? or would it not work out economically with shipping etc?

In fairness theyre not that bad

Its 320 sterling btw. They cant adjust the prices of hardware everytime theres a change in the exchange rate.I you asked ppl on this forum, you'd find that pretty much everybodys bought their ps3 for the irish price of 400e.Infact, back last october when they first brought ouy the 40gb ps3, the euro sterling exchange rate was about 3:2 so we were gettin a fairly good deal at 400e.At that stage ppl in the uk could say they were gettin ripped off

I saw it on Zavvi for £309 and I seem to remember When the PS3 first launched here we were being charged €23/30 more than the rest of Europe. Just from experience with Game they generally have the worst prices.
There's a Zavvi in Liffey Valley I might check out, see if they'll break the release date of the GTAiv bundle.

Game had the GTA IV bundle ready for Tues at 440. Zaffi have a 400 deal for GT prologue plus one new release but no mention if GTA IV can be used as part of this deal.

On a related note, I walked into Game on Saturday with my money in hand trying to do a deal with him but I came away disappointed after the manager told me not to buy a PS3 and buy a 360 (which I already have). I wanted a PS3 for reliability but he tells me that there is a flaw with the optical drive, and it appears just 3 months into ownership. I was all set to buy in either Zaffi or game but now I am confused. Should I cough up that much for another flawed machine. He also rubbished the frame rates compared to the 360 when comparing the same games. He used Assaisins Creed as an example which was beautiful on the 360.

Can anyone here put me back on track. I don't give a damn about bluray so no point telling me about how good it is.

in Zavvi in Cork last friday i managed to get the gran turismo bundle, an additional joypad, any chart game of my choice (i went for call of duty 4), and a blu ray (choice of spiderman, casino royale, and ghost rider) for 455€, a saving of about 100€, so check Zavvi before you buy. i was delighted with that deal.

any chart game says to me that gta can be included, whether or not they have any copies available on tuesday is a different story

as for the PS3 vs 360 battle, ps3 has Metal Gear Solid, which i genuinely cannot wait for, which was the main reason i went with sony's black small house sized device.

He seriously tried to convince you not to spend over 400 euro in his store. Good salesman right there :D

I'm in the same boat as the OP. I was not going to shell out for a PS3 until MGS4 came out but GTAIV just looks too good to miss out on.

440 doesn't seem too bad. I was expecting something like 500+.

Sounds like there trying to get more people to buy xbox's... gta4 and Metal Gear Solid are big bundle sellers for ps3... especially MGS as its exclusive... but u gota go with ps3 for the blu ray HD road...

I got the PS3 (ratchet & clank and Drakes) bundle & Rainbow 6 vegas 2 for €475... I can trade 2 of them games for GTA4...so i thought that was a decent deal...in gamestop!

Any sign of a new model (80gb/120gb) being released in Ireland?

HMV will have the GTA IV bundle for €440 with an additional game from a choice of 3, one of which is Burnout Paradise which happens to be the the next game after GTA IV i'm looking for.

Rent Paradise before you buy it. I'm a big fan of the Burnout series but this one has left me cold so far. Only had it two days though. Pausing the game to bring up a map constantly is definitely a pain in the balls.

No way. I played takedown on the PS2 and loved it, however i can't rent it as i'll only be buying the PS3 with it as part of the deal. Hmm, decisions decisions.

Exactly what I'm doing tomorrow. Xtravision will take it for €40. The graphics and sound are awesome but the soundtrack is beyond atrocious. The gameplay is very aimless and when you actually enter a race the minimap is too small to navigate so you have to keep pausing to check the main-map which is not what Burnout should be about.

Ya im in the same boat too i can't afford to shell out that kind of money but if you try www.shopireland.ie they give you the prices of amazon.co.uk in euro and it's like 370 for a 40gb ps3.

If PS3 develops a fault you won't be able to bring it back for a direct replacement so don't buy from the UK!!

Whats the best in-store deals at the moment?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 648 ✭✭✭Neo#

I got a PS3 yesterday for 454 with Gta 4 and Gran Turismo prologue. I reckon thats the best deal. I got it in Game in the Ilac centre. HMV do it for 440 with GTA 4 and any EA game also.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,012 ✭✭✭✭thebman

Yeah I'd avoid EA at all costs unless you have verifiable proof that they actually tested the game before releasing it.

Reviews would be handy for that, overall the above deal looks pretty good. I'd go for it if I was buying a PS3.

I have a question in terms of a ps3 GTA IV edition.

Does the game come included in the ps3 gta logo'd pack?

IE: Therefore, even if a shop has sold out of standalone gta games, the PS3 gta would still be available.

Or am I being naive, and it's simply one of their allocated standalone gta stock bunged in when you ask for that deal?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 85 ✭✭veloc123

In my opinion I got a great deal from HMV for €410 which included Fifa 2008, Blu Ray Dvd, and HDMI cable in the price!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,153 ✭✭✭everdead.ie

I know i'm cheap but how long do you reckon it's going to be before we get a price cut theese deals we get don't look quiet as good as the $399 they pay in the states thats roughly E255. Thats a huge difference in price.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,684 ✭✭✭marathonic

I'm in two minds whether to go ahead and buy a PS3 or to wait a while for a price-drop or for the dual shock controllers to be released here.

It's hard to know when there'll be a pricedrop though - Sony know they're gonna sell alot of consoles over the next 1-2 weeks with the release of GTA IV.

It's hard to know if they're considering cutting the price after a couple of weeks - they're more likely to let the sales die down a little until the release of Metal Gear Solid when they'll get another boost. Then Home will be coming a few months too.

It seems that there's enough stuff being released this year to spur on sales without Sony having to cut the price.
