Recording on YouTube

I would like to upload a video of myself singing and playing guitar on YouTube. I am using a Logitech Pro 9000 webcam but I am not happy enough with the results to want to put it up for public viewing.
The video quality is good but the audio quality is very poor.
Obviously the recording senario is not good but its what I have to work with. I'm seated about a meter away from the webcam with a built in mic so that I get enough of me and my guitar in the frame, however when playing back my results there is some distortion on louder sections of the audio recording.
Can anyone help on this - should I buy a seperate mic, if so what is recommended and remember that I don't want the mic seen in the video so a mic up close is not really an option.
    Many thanks.

are you using direct upload?or just recoding yourself, then uploading?i would suggest in buying a microphone if your having real problems with the audio(usually webcam microphones are terrible anyways)

I am recording on my PC and when I have resolved the distortion problem, I'll upload.

Do yourself and the youtube community a favour and don't use your webcam's mic, even if you DO solve the distortion problem. It will sound crap and no one will listen for more than 5 seconds, trust me.

Why not borrow a video camera and record yourself with that - not great but you should be able to get much better quality. Then use a free video editor (windows movie maker or iMovie) to edit and upload your video.

    Best of luck!
