Blade III would've been his last big cinema release? Downhill from there i guess.

He's got some awesome dvd sounding titles afterwards:

    The Marksman
    The Detonator
    The Contractor

    ...but they're pretty bad, huh?

See thats what happens when you stop betting on black.

They brought down Al Capone for not paying tax, I think there's a subtle message here; you don't f*ck with the tax man!

While he went down the direct to DVD route to make a quick buck, he still remains a great actor. His last decent role was in ZigZag, one of those great unheard of films which never got a decent release.

Most of his direct to DVD titles have been atrocious though Unstoppable was strangely entertaining. THe Contractor was decent, as Snipes at least got a chance to actually act rather than merely turn up. The rest of the ones I saw were beyond poor, not even worth the price of the rental.

Chances are after all the appeals he may not even see the inside of a prison cell.

But Capone butchered a load of inncent people and Snipes only ever killed vampires and plane based criminals.

I always thought Snipes was a decent actor compared to his peers like Segal, Van Damme, Lundgren et al. Guess I'm alone on this? Is it the fate of all 80s martial arts based actors to fade in direct to DVD obscurity/prison?

Heard this this morning and couldn't believe it.
Bleeding crazy. Judge is a tool tbh. "I see them as misdemeanors but I'm giving you the maximum punishment." Logic, hello?
He offered to pay twice what he owes in tax as a gesture of good will and the judge refused. Load of ****e. He deserves a massive fine but not prison. Nevermind 3 years.
Hopefully they get someone with sense in the appeal to rule on it.

Just saw White Men Can't Jump the other night for the first time in years. Love the movie. Him and Harrelson play really well off each other. (Harrelson actually vouched for him to the Judge as did Denzel Washington and others but to no avail). Drop Zone was on recently also which is decent. Passenger 57 I liked and a very good movie was Liberty Stand Still with Linda Fiorentino.
Probably my favourite movie with him was U.S. Marshals though. Notable mentions were Murder at 1600 and Money Train. Never did watch any of the Blade movies. Never had the interest

Most film fans will acknowledge that Snipes is a decent actor, but he has pissed his talent away in pursuit of a fast buck. Of the three other names you mentioned only one is a truely bad actor. Van Damme and Lundgren have been making some very good films in recent years, and it appears that both will have films in cinemas this year and next. J.C.V.D. is getting a lot of positive feedback and Lundgren's last few films have all gotten positive reviews.

There's even talk of a big budget sequel to Universal Soldier starring both Van Dame and Lundgren.

Shows how money conscious the US government is I guess.

I remember reading about this in Empire magazine a while back. Didn't he have a huge list of celebrities vouching for him?

I thought that movie with him in prison, the contender or what not wasn't half bad.

doesn't matter if people think you're great, pay your tax or you'll get done.

I liked most of his movies tbh...when he gets out he'll prob get a huge career boost or never make a movie again!

Nope. Of all the action stars to emerge from that era he and Bruce Willis were probably the only two with real acting chops. It's a pity the direction his career has gone in.
Harrelson actually vouched for him to the Judge...

    That may have back fired!

No, I think it's more to do with the burden of responsibility to pay tax being far more with the individual than the state over there. Self assessment means there's more onus on you to pony over the dough.

Wesley Snipes has been sent to jail for three years for unpaid taxes. It was the heaviest sentence possible. It seems harsh IMO. If it was Ireland he would be the friend of Fianna Fail and if it was Italy he would be considered a hero. I hate this making an example of celebrities, well in this case anyway.

Indeed, make the guy pay his taxes and slap on a heavy fine, but jail with murderers and rapists (probably some of which serving similar sentances) seems extremely harsh.

Have a weather station?, why not join the Ireland Weather Network - http://irelandweather.eu/

Yeah? Who else is in it?

    When's it out?

Poor Snipes. The question is though will he be frozen and have his tax evading tendancies replaced with something more useful, like knitting?

I believe Rutger Hauer and Steven Seagal are in it as well;):)

If crap movies were reason enough for jail time, I can think of a lot of people that should be serving life sentences.

Sorry to see Snipe's go down, think they are going to appeal the sentance. His best movie was Blade, forget about crappy Blade 2 & a return to form on Blade Trinity, although I read that he wouldn't talk to the director or his co-stars and didn't he try to sue the makers?

Lets hope he beats the rap!
