    Hi There,

What does anyone think of the HP 6910p.
I was previously looking at Dell M1330 or Lenovo X61.
The HP is a little pricey, but pretty good specs
    2.2 processor,
    4 MB - L2 Cache
    RAM 2 GB (installed) / 4 GB (max) - DDR II SDRAM - 667 MHz ( 1 x 2 GB )
    120 GB - Serial ATA-150 - 5400 rpm

mainly for general business use (office apps & Internet), but I do need it to be fast, and not freeze all the time when a few programmes running like my current dell Inspiron 6400

    Appreciate any thoughts...
    cheers

Well first off, how about a price? And what kind of processor is it ie. core 2 duo, core duo, celeron, semperon, etc.
I say this to everyone with you kind of question, Dell Vostro, great spec, cheap as chips , and sturdy machines. You'll find them on the Small Business section of Dell.ie. The vostro will be very similar in size and form to your 6400, it'll be black though.

    Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 / 2.2 GHz ( Dual-Core )
HP is around €1600, high spec model.
The Inspiron / Vostro is way too heavy, one of my reasons for wanting to change!
    Cheers

I have to hook it up to a network, when in Office and dell site, says the Vostro isn't suitable for that...

What? where are you getting that from, what kind of connection is it? The dell has an Ethernet port for connectng to a network as well as wifi.
    And firewire port

What connection do you need exactly? I wouldn't take any of that rubbish posted on the dell site to mean anything. I mean take your Dell 6400 for example. Almost exactly the same as the vostro 1500, only differences being cosmetic, and your 6400 connects to your network. I'm presuming it's an ethernet connection which the vostro 1310 has.
(I know you dont want a machine like the 1500 it was just an example to compare to your current machine)

No, No, I know what you are saying, and yes, just an ethernet connection, I suppose I just want something a bit snazzy, as well as being good spec, but I take your point on the vostro, it is half the price of the HP and M1330!

Back to the HP though...any feedback, or anyone you know have one?

The dell probably has a 10/100Mb ethernet card. For larger companies they would probably recommend a gigabit ethernet card. For most (if not all) people you wouldn't notice a difference between the two.

    The 1310 has a Gigabit ethernet:pac::pac::pac:
Although i think it's clear the OP is not impressed with the vostros, so how about the HP

I was just guessing, can't see why they say it's only good for companies with simple or no networks.

Looks good. But for that price I would expect a bigger hard drive and maybe 4GBs of ram.

Now that you mention that, an IT company I do work for was getting a quote from Dell recently for 50 Vostro desktops to go into a school. His account manager told him that if they were being connected to a network, paticularly a domain, they wouldn't be supported.

I know 100% that they'll work fine on a domain with XP Pro or Vista Business installed but that's what he was told. I think it's just a ploy to sell the more expensive Optiplex.
