I received my SKY CARD from Sky today.

When I stick it into the slot in the sky digibox I receive this message:

‘This viewing card is not authorised. Call the broadcaster for assistance’

Do I need to do something in particular to activate it/ get it working?

Please note: I bought my skybox on ebay uk – and I’m living in Belgium. I have a FREESATFROMSKY yellow house card and that works fine?

    Thanks for the reply Tony!

Is there any reason why this message is coming up???

Also - i see the EPG/ Station listings i currently have only list the UK stations. How to i get the Irish statons listed? But maybe they will appear when the card works?

    Thanks for the help.

Well normally the sky box will do a call back via a landline to activate when its a subsidised box but obviously in your case this is not possible so you need to call, make sure you hide your caller ID. The RTE epg will appear as soon as the card is authorised.

    Hope this helps

You need to get it set up by Sky, they might even need the Version and Serial of the box. You can find them by pressing Services , then System Setup and then System Details.

Sky can then match the card to the box.

First call sky and see what they say. Also make sure you have the card in the correct slot. Its not supposed to go in the interactive slot.

When you call Sky, you'll be asked for card number, after which you'll be asked to confirm your name and address, so make sure to use the details of where the card was sent to! If the contract also had a phonenumber put in, make sure and have that to hand too, as it does be asked for on occasion.

You'll also be asked for Version and Serial numbers, as mentioned by Dre above.

And don't forget to disguise your voice (only kidding:D). Switching off Caller ID is a good idea. If you phone from a mobile, this is usually pretty easy to do as it is on most mobile menus.

    hey,

If BBC1 and 2 are on then you dont need to ring!

Go to Sky News 501 put the card in, leave the sky box on for upto 24 hours and it should become active without ringing them!

Did the same with one I have worked a treat!

    Cheers,

    Doug

Are you referring to a "Freesat From Sky" card?

As the OP is talking about activating a new Irish subscription card.

so you can't swap cards between sky boxes,

what about a dvd-s tuner for the pc with a card reader?, how would i go about getting a sky card for that?

For obvious reasons, read his location.

You can swap cards between boxes. Only the premium pay channels won't work.

It's extremly awkward using a Sky card in other than a Sky Digibox. IMO not worth it for "normal viewers".

    Gotcha. Missed that bit.

Okay, I have a question: suppose I have an old sky box with an old card and a satellite- what use can I make of this, and can I get SKY {premium etc} by aligning the satellite, connecting the box and asking them to hook me up?? How would that work??? If at all, of course.

    CHEERS

If the card was in your name before it was terminated, yes.

Otherwise a new card will be required, sent by Sky.
