Hope this is relevant enough for the film forum. Wanted to ask the classic heads in here, if there are any :)

I can't seem to find many older films on the usual websites. Would like to get, for starters, Neil Simon, Mel Brooks, Il Postino, Serpico, All the President's Men, Sweet November (original) a range of the older stuff really, hopefully in one place.

Would have to be region 2 as my DVD player is can't be made region free.

    Thanks for any help.

have you looked on amazon.co.uk most of the ones you listed are on there in region 2 thou a region free player isn't going to set you back very much.

Thanks will look at amazon. Was hoping to find a site that specialises in classic films or would have a good subcategory so that I could maybe see other films also. Reason for the region 2 was that it's a hddvd player I have which is reason free for hddvd but not for dvd. Got rid of my region free dvd player because of two many devices to house, a mistake it seems now.

always handy to have the region free dvd player - esp given how small and cheap they've got. I still have all the random bits of machinery [my ancient VHS player, laser disk player that actually might not be working etc] knocking around.

Any sites that focus on selling just classic films I've found to be to expensive when your getting the same dvd as they sell on amazon. You can always ask on this forum or other film forums for people to rec films. Have you had a look in Laser in Dublin [the one up from grafton st. near the tourist office] They've a pretty decent selection of old films - I just got most of Carl Dreyers films in there.

All you need to do is google your dvd make and model and "region free unlock" or something and you'll be able to get a code to input into your dvd player to make it region free, it's really easy to do! i've done it on a few!

I can imagine some of those would be easy enough to get in Laser or Tower if you are in Dublin: know for a fact that All the Presidents Men and Il Postino (lousy Leaving Cert film) are in extremely healthy supply in the city centre.

    Thanks for the tips.

Can't make my HDDVD player region free for standard definition DVD, unfortunately. At least not yet.

Just recently started to buy DVDs. Bought a DVD player with a bunch of free DVDs, and caught the bug. So far have bought a few from amazon.com, amazon.co.uk, thehut.com, play.com, ezydvd.com, sendit.com, and dvdcrave.com. Amazon.co.uk are the only one of this lot with a decent classic category, they others have a few. Just wondering if there were others out there with a good oldie catalog. The titles I named were the first few that came into my head. I'll check out hmv and zavvi, thanks.
