    Hi ,

Looking to go to Vegas for 3 nights with the missus. Want to combine it with some other american city that has good outlet shopping for the missus. Don;t fancy an 11 hour flight to LA ,

so how about something on the east coast? Orlando/Chicago/New York/Boston.....????

Anyone do something like this? All previous experiences or recommendations are greatly appreciated.

Also, can you let me know who would the cheapest to fly with. Would I be better booking the whole trip, or getting flight to America, then internal flight to vegas? Again recommendations would be great.

    Thanks in advance.

I've been to Washington, Chicago and New York on the East side and Vegas and SF on the other side.

Would suggest Washington or New York and then onto Vegas.
Plenty to see in Washington...shopping is good too in centres like Arlington. Good metro system and you get to see all the sites. There are a lot of dodgy parts of the city though...and sometimes I night here I didnt feel all that safe.

New York has a lot more going on. PLENTY to do and see. Loads of shopping. Outlet centres in Woodbury Common and in New Jersey (which has a lower sales tax).

Chicago is fine if you are only planning 2/3 nights. I found it to be a lot smaller in terms of things to do and see, but I was there in the "off season".

Aer lingus are pretty cheap at the moment flying into Washington. Plus they now have linked up with JetBlue for internal US flights.

Continental are usually pretty cheap flying into Newark.

    When you planning on going?

Do shop around with all the airlines and be flexible with your dates to get the best prices.
Delta, Aer Lingus, Continental, US Airways, American Airlines all fly from Ireland to various destinations in the US.
Don't forget that booking 2 x one way flights can work out cheaper than a return flight.

    EDIT

Forgot to mention there are two outlet centres in Vegas itself too. I went to this one and picked up a lot of clothes. http://www.premiumoutlets.com/outlets/outlet.asp?id=58
Plus there are a LOT of shops in the casinos and at The Fashion Show Mall - http://www.thefashionshow.com/html/index15.asp
The Forum shops at Caesars Palace - http://www.harrahs.com/casinos/caesars-palace/casino-misc/the-forum-shops-detail.html
The Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood Hotel - http://www.planethollywoodresort.com/amn_miracle_mile_shops.php

no need all the shopping she will ever want is located on the las vegas strip, there are so many shops (nearly ever hotel has a huge shopping mall) her head will spin. to add to the previous poster, the forum shopping mall at Caesars Palace is the most profitable mall in america per square foot.

depends on what you like, Chicago and New York are very similiar cities, if you want big city, huge skyscrapers, busy downtowns, these are the place for you. Orlando is a must if you like theme parks and rollercoasters. its much smaller than New York. Personally having travelled all over america myself i would recommend a few days in San Francisco area (aer lingus fly direct) and then its only a one hour flight to vegas from there. Nothing can beat the sites of San Fran and the likes of Yosemite national park and redwood national forest both only a few hours from downtown.

piece of advice concerning vegas, beware july and august can be very very hot as in mid 40C it hit 48C last year, staying in vegas on friday and saturday nights costs as much as four or five times the price of Sunday through Thursday nights. Stay as close to the centre of the las vegas strip as possible for your first trip, lots of hotels are located downtown about 5 miles from the main action. 3 days in vegas is too short, i wouldn't do anything less than 4 or 5

Southwest are one of the cheapest US internal carriers http://www.southwest.com

If you're going to vegas its only an hour flight to LA. Its an over 5 hour flight from Vegas to New York. Also there are no direct flights from Dublin to Vegas.

Outlet shopping "in" Chicago is in the town of Aurora which unlike, say, Woodbury Common isn't that easy to get to by public transport. There is excellent shopping in Chicago itself though.

As above the Premium Outlet mall in Vegas is as big as any of them so if you're going purely for outlet shopping that could be your best bet.

All the US carriers fly to Vegas so if you have a look at their sites you'll find the best deal for yourself. Southwest are probably the most frequent but they have a bit of a Ryanair reputation (although nowhere near as bad) as somethings are the same (baggage limits, no assigned seats etc).

If you don't want to change in the US, Virgin from London is probably your best bet.

If you want to avoid Heathrow, BMI fly from Manchester to Vegas too.
