i am currently deciding upon which console i should buy

    playstation 3
    top spec?
proven brand and i have a number of playstation2 games
none of my mates have it

    xbox360
    no bluray
most of my mates have this
could it become obselete soon? replaced with better version?

    Wii
    better to play with friends
some of my mates have it
concerns over playability of games like pro evo with those controllers

not sure where to post this.. hopefully i dont have to put it in three different places

I'm of the opinion that if you want the ultimate gaming machine, which the PS3 and Xbox claim to be, then you need to get yourself a PC.

The Wii is great fun but as a stand alone console and without having friends around to play it with you it lacks depth. Now I haven't got any serious games for it yet, I own Mario Kart, Mario Galaxy (I hate Mario), Big Brain, Wii Play, Wii sports, Rayman and while some have very addictive game play once you master the basics there's nothing that will have you acing to play again.

Get friends around though and the Wii is non stop fun, everyone loves it. I think I've got a perfect setup, big powerful PC and fun Wii.

A gaming PC just isn't an option for the majority of people given the huge prices involved. You won't get much change out of €1500 for something to play Crysis. For my money, the best option is terms of value and game line-up is the Xbox 360 by some margin.

Also you mention having PS2 games, but the PS3s currently on the market cannot play any of them. It's only the older 60gb version, which are no longer avaiable for sale, that can play PS2 games.

I disagree that the Wii lacks depth, Mario Galaxy is immersive and has massive replay value for me. I'm constantly trying to find other stars, secret areas, coins and the likes. And the Wii controls are genius.

OP Let the games guide you, do you want to play, High Def FPS and action games? then it should be Xbox or PS3 all the way, I'm yet to be convinced that there are any "Must have" games for the PS3 that aren't also available on the Xbox.

if you're likely to be playing in more social scene or are a bit of a Mario Fanboy, then it should be a Wii.

Incidently there are loads of great multiplayer games for Xbox as well.

Here is what I posted in the same thread in the xbox forum, and it still stands here :)
Well first of all you posted this thread in the Xbox forum and Nintendo forum (but not Playstation forum!), so-

    (a) You've already decided on a PS3, and want to know pros/cons of other 2, or
    (b) You've decided NOT to get a PS3, and want help to decide which one out of the other 2.

The fact that PS3 was first on your list leads me to think its option (a)

The problem is when you post in an Xbox forum, everyone is going to go "Get xbox get xbox get xbox". When you post in Nintendo forum, everyone will say "Get wii get wii get wii".

Not exactly a balanced way to making a decision. :)

Got pro evo on wii and the controls are fantastic , Mario Kart has kept me and my mates entertained for days now...

Xbox if your after more traditional games , Gears of wars etc...

I wouldnt buy a PS3 Yet , not too many games grab my attention and a very high price point

I'd say, if it's an option at all, get both the Xbox and Wii, as then you've both bases covered, and there are fantastic games available on both.

A lot of those old game had some great game play alright although now most of it seems pretty limited. Its all relative of course but nowadays when ever I revisit the retro games they rarely keep me entertained for more than few minutes.

Back then of course I could spend hours at Joust.

I've got PES 08' on wii and 360. IMHO Pro Wiivo 08>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> pes 08(360+ps3)

Bloody amazing game. Reinvents the soccer genre.

I will say go with the wii, great games, unique control system--> lots of fun party games for all ages and uniniated gamers.

Only way I would recommend 360 is if you really want Halo 3/Bioshock/Gears of war/Half Life 2 Orange bundle, if your not that type of gamer forget about it. Plus I'm on my 3rd 360 atm, because microsoft are cheap greedy gits that skimped on producing a reliable console and cheated gamers out of there money. I got mine all replaced and the "bug" is fixed on new consoles apparently:rolleyes:

PS3 if you want blueray and a console on the cheap, impressive piece of kit, better than the 360 and it's power/blueray matches up well against nintendo's innovation/quirkiness/nintendoness.

I will still say go with the wii, nothing special about 360 or ps3(well maybe blueray), just better graphics compared to the previous machines sony and microsoft chucked out. Nintendo are the only company of the 3 to truly make a next gen console this time round, as opposed to an oversized upgrade.

Everyday I come home to my Wii with a big grin, like fred flintstone; "Honey I'm Home!!"

I'm locking this because there have been a few complaints about threads of this type. There's no need to post the same thread in multiple forums and a quick use of the search function will drag up hundreds of similarly mundane threads.
