Digital Beginners and Spectra Photo have extended the date of our latest competition due to the bad weather we've been having lately. The closing date has been put back to the 30th of April, 2008. The sunny weather of the couple of days should make it easier for everyone.

For the Springtime Photography Competition we're looking for photos that attemp to capture the spirit of this exciting time of year. Try to shoot the blossoming colours of springtime or the birth of a new year of growth. Send us in whatever you think represents the second season of the year.

    1st Prize: €250 Spectra Voucher
    2nd Prize: €150 Spectra Voucher
    3rd Prize: €75 Spectra Voucher

All winners will also have their winning photo printed onto Canvas by Sprectra Photo.

More details and the gallery of shots submitted so far can be found here: http://www.digitalbeginners.ie/spectra/index.htm or feel free to give me a shout on 087 259 9785,

    Dave

Hmmm ... maybe I'll submit some of my Utah images, since they were taken in March.

Then again, I must read the full rules, in case it specifies that the images must be taken in Ireland. :D

Paul, just call them "Dingle in a drought", maybe we won't notice :)

I think Dingle would have a little more green than this -

I love the way you put the selective cotton wool in the shot, is it a PS action or Lightroom preset??

Seriously, I agree with Dave - nice shot!!

I have a question - what are we supposed to do with the photos that we get printed off in Spectra Photo, hand them in there or send them off somewhere? It doesn't seem clear from the instructions.

I don't like the fact you have to send them in digitally and physically. That takes too much effort.I may just leave this one.

That's just being lazy. A photo should always look better printed. It's always so nice to see images in print.

Not sure if I'll be entering, but it's an excuse to get some more images printed.

I take it you have to be resident in Ireland?

Or if not, can you use Spectra's online print service?

I agree, photos do look better in print and I do print regularly enough however I wouldn't go to the effort of printing solely for this competition. In all honesty the chance of me winning something is extremely slim so I don't feel the need to go out of my way for it.I don't see this as being lazy, just setting my priorities.

Sorry guys, I've just updated that. They can be dropped into any Spectra Store or posted to us.
Address for posting is Springtime Landscape Competition, c/o Digital Beginners, 50 Canal Walk, Park West, Dublin 12.

Eirebear, you can use the Spectra Online Service to have shots printed, from anywhere in the world. I've just talked with Spectra's Marketing Manager tonight (she's on my Creative Course) and she's clarified that shots from outside the Republic of Ireland, taken by Irish or Non-Irish people are allowed,

Nice one, might give it a shot...or at least keep my eyes open for futre comps.

smell a bit of scammage here...in order to enter a photo to the competition you have to have it printed by Spectra? Is the competition (and ongoing association with Digital Beginners) not enough publicity for them without forcing people to use their service?

Seems a bit off to me...

    Hi Dave,

I am a true beginner and I am considering entering the Spring Landscape competition, just want to clarify one thing? Do the pictures need to be taken in Ireland? I am just back from Kenya & Tanzania and got a few great shots???

    Thanks,

    Sarah
