Good sessions in Galway?

    Music I meant >_>

I'm not out much on the weekends apart from the football, and during the week it's usually student pubs & clubs. Wouldn't mind catching a good bit of music sometime though. Went into Taaffe's in the day on Thurs and there was a box & banjo player but they were awful and it was full of Yanks happily clapping along ("gee this crack is awesome!").

Where/when's a good time to catch a mighty bit of music, rather than just a couple of lads on a fiddle and box.

I heard that old man's pub opposite The hairy leg has some sessions going on, not sure if it's good or not though.

    Hi OP,
Your best bet for proper trad music in Galway (and not the "folk & ballads" tripe that you get in a lot of pubs) is either in Tí Coilí across from King's Head, or in the Crane Bar on Sea Road.

I agree, but if you are looking for real trad played by real players, then try Coili's or The Crane.
Many trad players wouldn't be caught dead in Taaffe's for some reason...

You mentioned in the original post, something more that just 2 or 3 on box/fiddle.
Then you should go to The Western Bar (just up off Eyre Square) for a real jam
on Thursday nights, where you'll get anything from 8/10/12 musicians and a good
sound, the best kept secret in Galway (.....well, not anymore if everyone reads this!)
