    From Steves Digicams:

    Full detailed review:http://www.steves-digicams.com/2007_reviews/fuji_s8000fd_pg5.html

Bottom line - FujiFilm's Finepix S8000fd is an appealing "Ultra-Zoom" digicam. This is a very capable consumer model, with some very nice features (8M, 18x Wide Zoom, Face Detection, etc.), good overall performance, and plenty of shooting modes for every member of your household. Image quality is up to par with it competitors (Canon S5 IS, Panasonic DMC-FZ18, Olympus SP-560 UZ) and with a street price of US $350 or less (US$399 MSRP), it offers a terrific value for a camera in this class. The only other issue I had with the camera that's not mentioned above, was the fact that the camera will allow you to snap a photo while you are waiting for the flash to recharge. In most cases, this just produces a blurry photo that is unusable. That said, I still feel the Finepix S8000fd will make a great choice for any consumer in the market for a camera with these specs, and it's sure to be a popular model this holiday season.

Oh and personally I would prefer AA batteries over li-ion proprietary ones (cheaper and widely available).

I agree about the batteries. I have the S6500fd and I can't believe how long 4 2700mAh batteries last. Also if they die and you don't have a charger with you, any shop will have AA's.

Other option in that kind of cost is the kodak z812, which i recently purchased. 190 on pixmania, and so far has been quite a nice little camera.

Thanks for al the replies folks, question regardig dabs.ie. Are they good on delivery times? Herself is due within 4 weeks or so and our camera only went on the blink on Sunday, so ideally would like to have it in 1-2 weeks. These super zooms seem pretty cool

    Hi All,

Budget for my new camera is €220 max, this seems to be the best deal I can find, any other suggestions? I like this style of camera and am interested in knowing if there are any better alternatives. Will be buying tomorrow. I would have preferred one with a proper battery, rather than the 4 AA batteries

You can't go wrong with a Fuji. I had an s5000 for four years, and have just upgraded to an Eos 450D. It never once failed me. Stunning pictures. If you buy 2500mAh batteries you'll easily get 2-300 shots from it. You can get them cheap here. I used these for the past four years and they're superb.

Go for the Fuji. You won't regret it. Some of the photos on this flickr page are taken with an older model, the S5800.

Decided in the end to go for a new Canon PowerShot S5 IS, took a chance and went with an ebay HK supplier, fingers crossed!! Looks like a great camera, never realised how much choice there is out there and how much time I could spend pulling my hair out trying to choose between them!!
