I'm going away on Wednesday to the states for a month helping a friend move from Ohio to Portland, so I won't be on here too much in that time. I'll be busy camping out, sleeping on peoples sofas, in cars etc... Hopefully I'll have some good shots when I get back....and be in debt from the urge to buy more kit at US prices!!!!!!

    Portland Maine or Portland Oregon?

I've been to Portland Oregon a few times. Plenty around to photograph.

    Enjoy.

With a D3 in the bag I'm not sure what other gear will be very tantalising anymore (unless they announce the D3x while you're there? ;) )

Possibly the Nikon 14-24 2.8, 24-70 2.8, 70-200 2.8 and maybe the 105 2.8 macro VR? I'll probably have to rob a bank over there for all that though?

Well I was just thinking that with the great hi-ISO abilities the f5.6 "consumer" zooms will probably give great results on a D3 too (70-300 vr etc.) Then again, if you have the money (from robbing a bank) then why not get the quality glass too :)

Hey Fenster....you serious? Vegas is on my list of places to roll thru.....any chance of a floorspace for 2 people? How long are you there for or are you there permanently? Be good to meet up, which is what this trip is all about. Meeting people randomly and being on a loose schedule!

That's almost a line from one of my favourite movies of all time.

    The Shining.

You're banned if you don't post up at least 15 photos on your return.

    Have fun :)

I was over in Oregon once for work, this was before I took up photography, we had to go south 2 hours right into Corvallis, which is a big "city" due to its college (hmm sonorities), so every night I went out on the piss and managed to rack up a hotel bar bill of $1,100 by myself :D Thank god for expenses, oh yea the trip was for 10 days :D

I had planned on going up to Portland but we had an "ice storm" over there at the weekend , would of had some damn good shots.

Portland is a really cool place. Spent many a drunken time there when I used to go over there to play paintball. One of the pro USA teams is based there!!
