Does anybody know the courses available in Ireland, particularly in Dublin, in becoming a personal fitness trainer?

I don't know of any! Which ones are the most highly rated and provide the best recognised qualifications?

All I've found so far is this part-time one: http://www.ntc.ie/ehspt.php
Are there any full time courses?

This is probably going to be viewed as controversial by many, but I'll say it anyway...

One of the problems with qualifications the Health and Fitness industry is that, until recently, there was no regulation. Anyone could set themselves up as a college or whatever and offer courses, so be wary of what claims are being made.

To combat the lack of regulation in the industry, the EU have set up a body called the European Health and Fitness Association - http://www.ehfa.eu/

They are the body who will regulate these type of qualifications from now on. Training organisations are mapped against EHFA standards and learning outcomes for Basic Level Instructor, Advanced Level Instructor and Personal Trainer. If you are looking for a good course to study, you should consider one that meets the EHFA standards. At present (April 2008), the only courses in Ireland to meet these standards are the relevant courses offered by:

    Tralee IT
    Waterford IT
    NCEF
    NTC

Now - before you all jump down my throat, to clarify, I am not saying that other courses (not listed) are worthless. I think all courses have their merits and are excellent starting points for people. However, if they are to match the other courses on offer, they will seek out the EHFA accreditation in the future, or be in the process of doing it.

If you want to start a qualification that is recognized and accredited by an official 3rd party, make sure you go for a course with EHFA accreditation. This qualification allows you to work abroad also (within the EU) - the others will not.

NCEF is accredited by UL, it's a much better course than it used to be.

ISSA personal trainer course is another one i know of
