i have sky plus for a few months now but for the first time i need to get something i have recorded onto to a dvd or onto a computer. whats the easiest way to achieve this. i don't have a dvd recorder and don't intend on buying one either. there's a usb port on my sky plus box. can this be used for transferring a programme onto a laptop??

thanks in advance for any advice given!!!

    Sorry..

The USB port is for future use and the disk is encrypted.

The Plustron analogue in DVD recorder in Dunnes is cheapest solution at about €99. Analogue capture on most PCs/Laptops is poorer.

Basically you can only playback via the SCART. If it's a pay Tv recording and you downgrade then you can't play it back at all.

The Sky Digibox uses two layers of encryption:
    1) The signal is recorded direct before the CAM/Viewing card so if PayTV or FTV has one of three kinds of Sky / NDS encryption.

    2) The recording process adds extra encryption so even FTA (clear) channels are encrypted. This is added to all recordings.

On playback the embedded CAM 1st removes the disk encryption and then removes any on-air encryption, in both cases using your current viewing card keys. Hence ability to play back depends on current subscription, not just what you subscribed when recording!

If you don't like it complain to EU, TDs etc and buy a non-Sky Satellite PVR and only have free to air channels. :)

freesat pvr seems to be the way to go now as the sky box + freesat card will only be useful for a few extra channels although the red button and epg are useful....

roll on the new freesat system in the uk.

i presume this will be able to be received over here...?

Hey Watty are the Digital Tv/radio trials available around Limerick/Clare yet?

    I can see Maghera....

I was in the South East corner of Co. Limerick over Easter and could receive DAB from Woodcock Hill loud and clear. RTE stations only available. Nothing on the DTT front from Woodcock Hill or Maghera.

You remembered both DAB and DTT are only on trial!

I'm just *bump*ing this thread as it's been a few months - I'm wondering if anyone knows of a slightly cheaper DVD Recorder on sale? Just chancing my arm really to see if they are coming down in price as we get closer to Christmas.

Alternatively, and this is the option I'd really prefer - is there some sort of plug/cable I can use to connect Sky+ to my laptop, which I has a built in DVD-RW? I got the box about 5 or 6 weeks ago so perhaps the USB port is now in use? I just hate the thoughts of buying yet another device...

    Thanks in advance
