What's been your best buy or best bargain in the football manager games. Mine was when i managed Liverpool and i managed to sign Henry on a free! He went on to score 26 goals in his first season, and 18 in his second! I won the Premiership twice in a row, mainly thanks to him.

Bojan and Guiseppe Rossi both to Real Madrid, both on frees. Scored over 100 goals between them in 3 seasons, Rossi won European player of the year, Bojan became a full Spanish international. As soon as I left they were dropped though which pissed me right off.

I normally sign sturridge & ched evan from man city on loan & rhys murphy on loan from arsenal & they're good for a load of goals, although sturridge is out for 6 mths with the patch update.
When you pick leeds you normally can only get good youngsters on loan, v hard ot buy unless you try brazilian clubs or romania u21 team

Merida and Scott Sinclair became two of the top 5 players in the world. My best discoveries though were San Roman Agouda Doudin and Bozaglo

Pepe LeFrits

German regen called Steffen Franck in a really old version of CM, possibly 95/96. Picked him up for peanuts, played him as a sweeper in a 5-3-2 and his average rating varied between 9.3 and 9.7 for four seasons.

I was Southampton, got promoted in my first season via playoffs and then purchased Toto Tamuz (Israeli) whom scored 36 goals in my first season in the premier league!! I got him for 4.7 m

Charles André Doudin from Neuchatel Xamax on FM07. He's usually available for free or maybe 200k. Very good striker and he develops very quickly into a top striker.

Hamdi Salihi from KF Tirana (iirc) on FM07. About 1m but bangs the goals in, whatever league you're in.

Got Ignacio Piatti (other Piatti chose Fiorentia for some reason) for Leeds and he helped get automatic promotion. Bought for peanuts and worth 3.8m by season 2. Having half the Romainan team also helped

Signed Nicklas Bendtner for free for MVV when his Arsenal contract ran out. In his first season (nearly half way there) he has a goal per game ratio in all competitions including the UEFA Cup.

This is a great question and a hard one:

My game with newcastle I bought Matias Fernandez for 10mil was outstanding also in that team I had Bale. I was forced to sell Jose Enrique for 11 using that to buy Bale for 8

I went to Barca and got Van Der Vaart for free. He was key to me winning the League and Champions League. Whenever I needed something to happen he was there!

I signed many young players with both clubs but never exactly got the full effect of them because I moved on. I was at Newcastle and left for Barca, understandable. Then after 2 1/2 years there and winning 2 leagues and a champions league they wouldnt give me a new contract! But There were players that stood out after, all 3 regen. Degano who via Blackburn went to Juventus, Juan Pablo Funes who also went Juventus and Gary Johnson who I bought for 500,000 went to Arsenal to for 13mil after 1 season. Then I had the usual Torje, Breno etc

I think mine would be Bojan in FM 07. Great signing he's been banging in the goals for my Juve team for years now and he's still only about 26.

Christopher Samba for Barca. an emergency buy when Milito? broke his leg, and i hadn't the budget to get a big name replacement. £2 million for an absolute rock in defence and scores over 10 goals a season from set pieces.

Marlon Harewood for two million in my first season with Derby, scored 22 goals and single handedly got me into mid table and won me the League Cup with a brace in the final.:D

For Bohs, i got Simon Lynch off Gretna for 60k, and he bangs them in for fun. Erik Grendel from dubnica i think for 40k was a bargain. a romanian lad pleinceanu was free and is a great central mid, and anthony wordworth from some english team is doing the biz as well

Bogdan Stancu, a Romanian. Cost me 400k to my Crystal Palace, 27 goals in first season, 41 next season and single handedly won promotion into Premiership and then gets 31 in Premiership alone. Hero !

Best lad to buy at the start is Henri Saivet. He is immense! I'm starting him for Schalke and he's only 17! Wonderkid!

You can get him free from Bordeaux at the start of the game

Stancu was signed for 400k and did decent enough for me in first season but wanted to leave once Liverpool declared interest but he signed for the newly promoted West Brom for £6m. Not a bad profit tbh

I buy Saivet every game I play but he is never anywhere near ready until he's about 19 or 20. His stats are cack to be honest, and he needs a good few seasons before he gets up to PL level. IIRC he starts at about 90 ability, which is sweet **** all tbh.

ive had some great signing through the years for many many different clubs and leagues, but the one that stands out right now (probably cause its very recent) is Carlton Cole for Waterford United, he signed half way through the second season for me, and scored 24 goals in the second half of that season, he then went on to belt in anything between 47 and 54 goals a season for 5 years

got me to the semi final of the UEFA cup and was a catalyst for some other good players joining.

Other big ones that stick out are Modric,Vela,Aguero,Kompany and Denilson in FM07

Goalie called Stekelenburg in an older version,think it was CM4, great keeper

and i think in CM3 or maybe even 2, Vicenzo Montella, in the twilight of his career got me promoted to the Prem almost single handedly

Yeah i had Stancu for Crystal Palace so he was unknown apart from his amazing goalscoring habit. It made him into the best player in the world where I am now. However, when i started a new game with Villa, he was shocking, couldn't play him. Suppose it's all to do with them playing at a lesser club then !!

The game has the player ability and potential values as a figure out of 200, you can see them if you load the editor.

It's a seperate program, it should be in your FM folder on the start menu.

was accrington stanley. got promoted in my first season. in my second season i bought anderson silva from everton for 100k. has played every game and is now club captain. also charlie barnett. paid 40k from liverpool. he played 46 games in one season at the age of 17..ace..

danny haynes on loan from ipswich when i was with MK Dons. scored somethin like 45 in 35 games. then signed him proper the next season and did pretty much the same. legend for the lower leagues.

I play as Leeds and sign him first season in League One usually for 250k.

He bags me 30 + goals to get me promoted to The Championship, and then ****s off usually to Bolton or Athletico Madird.

I always refuse to sell but that b*stard Ken Bates always intervenes and says the 4 million offer is too good to turn down

i don't understand the obsession with Aaritalo. i couldn't find him in my normal game, and eventually found him in the database editor... his PA and CA are crap. roughly around 125 and 110 respectively in my game.

ah i see now what it is. he was toned down in the database updates. he goes from a -9 with the retail database to a -7 in 8.02 from what i can see.

i think we should start stating what version of the game we're using. i'm see a helluva lot of differences between the two at times.

anyway, i've found a decent buy that hasn't been mentioned here (i think). two Brazilian defenders. the first Guilherme is a left back, has the potential to be just as good as Marcelo only he needs a lot more work. but can be bought for under 4 million. another; Felipe plays with Udinese, same story not great to start off but can be just as good as Richards become eventually. think he might cost around 6 at the start, i got him for that anyway a couple of seasons in.

Andy Butler is an excellent cheap buy @ 200k, as are the 4 Romanians Stancu, Torje, Sepsi & Sarghi.

Add Anthony Scribe in the nets for 200k, Pablo Piatti for 250k, Aaritalo for 250k and you've got yourself a team for around a million quid who'll take you from any league to upper Prem in a couple of seasons

Not my signing but I took over Chelsea and Avram Grant had signed David Villa the week before he left. Villa scored 61 in 45 games . He got injured and still got that many goals when he came back.

My best signing would be Kevin Doyle for Chelsea as well. Complimented Villa perfectly when played in the AMC role and scored his fair share of goals. Think he got 30 in the season and 20 odd assists majority to Villa. Class player.

here's a couple:

Alejandro Gomez who plays with Arsenal de Sarandi. AMC. bought him for around 300k when the game started playing as NEC. sold him for 7 million with the 50% sell on clause just one season later to Ajax. looks like he has the potential to be good enough for a leading side (i.e. top4 Prem) in about 3 or 4 years.

Damian Escudero with Velez at the beginning. AML. 250k at the beginning, and half way through the second season i've turned down bids of 7 or 8million. same story as Gomez, could be good enough for a leading side in another year or two. 18month after buying him AC Milan have made an enquiry!

Marvin Angulo with Arsenal de Sarandi. D,WB, M, AM R. again cheapish, about 400k. is immensely versatile, can play anywhere on the right wing. maybe not quite good enough in the long run for say a Chelsea or an Arsenal, but he'll be good enough for a top half team in about 2 years.

Alo Barengrub (cant remember where he starts off). DC. can be bought for around 130k. looks like he'll be good enough for a top half premiership team in a few years.

edit: feck, i've forgot. all of these apart from Alo will need work permits. no idea how easy they are to get as i've only played with them outside the UK.

Karl Bermingham and Ronnie O'Brien for Shels definitely. Got them both on frees.
Or else Danny Graham for Club Brugge in FM06. Scored 36 goals in all competitions one year after I got him on a bosman. Got capped three times for England and then I sold him to Newcastle for 12.5 million. Good bit of business I say.

I bought both at the end of the first season when they were young. Its now 2015 and both are world class defender and midfielder respectively. Both starting for France and Sakho is both mine and France's captain. Absolutely incredible signings. I loaned them out for about 3-4 seasons to make sure they got games.
